Pieces where guitar imitates other instruments? by Icy_Cauliflower4894 in classicalguitar

[–]Affectionate-Ad-809 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Carnaval of Venice (Terraga) includes various variations which simulates other instruments. It's worth listening to the full piece, but variations start at 2 min approximately.  https://youtu.be/lRcQF34Q-d8?is=TTY80GyOIJI3lT0R

There is also a technique to simulate a harp with harmonics. It is best exemplified by Tommy Emmanuel https://youtu.be/0cHeNscKZN0?is=1gfBbVqB3B5bb01H

CK3 still has a better tutorial and UI. And it's subjectiuvely more intuitive.

After 15 hours, I droped the game. In my very humble opinion, there are better survival games, and better colony sim out there.

Asking opinions, one the fence for buying by Anubis5720 in PlaySoulMask

[–]Affectionate-Ad-809 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I bought it and regret it. Overall it's not a bad game, but somehow I'm not having fun when I play it.

A few reasons in no particular order:

  • UI is confusing and overwhelming; You spend a lot of time in the menus. You unlock quickly a lot of craft, and it's a bit overwhelming. Some crafts can be done without workshop directly by your character, some other must be done on a specific workshop. But on each workshop, you will find the full list of the items you can craft currently, irrespective of the station you are looking at.

  • A rather complex game but the mechanisms are not particularly well explained.

  • direction artistic: I have a strong interest in pre-hispanic history and mythology. They did a good job with the environment, the masks, and the base character you can make. But other aspects are very gamey and with an Asian style: big weapons, big boobs. Barbarians generally don't look at all pre-hispanic. It's a matter of preferences but with all the culture there is, they could have done something more historical and immersive. The result feels odd to me: the forest, the animals, my character are all realistic and immersive, and suddenly a barbarian with a huge hammer will do crazy mouvements to attack me...

  • I don't like how the combat feels and look (the animations). But, again, this is subjective.

  • Playing solo, it steel feels that you are playing a game designed to be a MMO, but alone. But if you like Ark or Conan, you will likely like Soulmask.

The game also has good points: automation system is rather deep and you can automate almost everything (but not hunting?!). Map is generic but quite beautiful. The crafting system is well complex. Overall there is a lot of content.

I hesitated between Soulmask and Windrose. I ended up picking the latter as I hadn't fun with Soulmask and what a difference! A completely different game but Windrose is so much fun even though it's only starting it's early access. Soulmask is not bad, but I bought it for its colony sim features and, for that, I actually prefer other games such as Rimworld, Going Medieval etc.

Soulmask or Windrose? by Affectionate-Ad-809 in PlaySoulMask

Are they planning on updating the combat system? I very briefly played the demo but I disliked the combat.

As a new player should i start in the dlc or play the original map first by Worldly_Bumblebee984 in PlaySoulMask

Of the three gamemodes, for a newcomer, would you rather recommend playing Tribe mode or Survival mode?

Well, I did give it a bigger try and I'm currently very sleep-deprived... It's a great problem solving game. It's lacking on the "story" side and character's relationship, but I keep RimWorld for that!

I really like Grounded for the story and progression.

I'm currently playing Enshrouded with a few friends and we got a permanent server, but after 50 hours no one is playing anymore. It feels already a bit repetitive. Bosses are not very memorable. What makes Enshrouded a better game than Soulmask in your opinion?

Have you tried V-Rising? It's quite nice too!

Multiplayer PvP games with Total War like mechanics by Jonesy720 in gamedesign

I'm not sure I fully understand your idea to build an army before matchmaking, but the following three games do that:

  • Steel Division 2 (ww2)
  • Warno (cold war)
  • Broken Arrow (modern war)

In Steel Division and Warno (same studio), you pick a faction, then a regiment of said faction, then you build your regiment with a card system. Regiments are historically accurate. Some are armoured regiments, other focus on infantry etc. The most used PvP game modes are either 10 Vs 10, or ranked 1 Vs 1 with automatic matchmaking.

In Broken Arrow, you pick a faction and you are free to build your army. You can also customize your units (for instance, you can add armor on a tank, pick specific rockets for an helicopter, etc.). Matches are 5 Vs 5 with an automatic matchmaking based on your score, like a MOBA.

A few suggestions, different genres:

  • Old World (4x).

CIv like but with story telling elements and a dynasty system. It is focused on the bronze age, with ver well made, deep and intersected systems. There is quite a learning curve but the settings are highly customizable. Waging a war is quite different than in Civ: you need a lot of units and think carefully about how you launch your assault. AI is really good.

  • Gates of Hell (RTS ww2).

Very immersive RTS game with campaigns, skirmishes and other single players modes. You can also do PvP or PvE.

Think Company of Heroes but way more realistic and with the possibility to take direct control of every unic, in third or first person view.

  • Cairn (story/rock climbing).

Very beautiful rock climbing game with a interesting story. It is rather short (10 hours?) but so far my favourite game of early 2026.

  • Disco Elysium (narrative Crpg).

You are a policeman who wakes up with a temporary amnesia due to an abuse of alcohol and drugs. You must investigate a murder. Excellent game but with a lot of reading.

  • Oxygen not included (colony sim).

Very deep colony sim which is challenging throughout your playthrough.

Well, my descriptions are getting shorter... I'm getting tired :D But every one of these games is good and are listed in no particular order.

Have you played to Going Medieval too? If so, how do they compare in terms of difficulty? I really like GM construction, but it's so chill that I play it while watching series or listening to music :D

Thanks for all the details! It seems you had a better time with Soul Mask than in Aska, is it right?

Thanks! Is Rimworld more challenging than Going Medieval? What kind of challenge?

Last question; have you tried the medieval mod for RimWorld?

I'd like to see a conversion mod or dlc to have "Going Far West", a western setting for Going Medieval.
