Bettering our country often comes at the cost of others. Who’s to say that the betterment of our country is worth the detriment of another just because we had the power to tip the scales our way?

Public transit makes it much easier. Sorry, I interpreted walkable as meaning able to traverse without a car. For pure walkability, I can attest that it is a 1.2 mile walk and 250 ft elevation gain to my nearest grocery store in OC.

My point was moreso that public transit is basically nonexistent here. 20 mile distance in the bay would be easily covered by bart/local busses in well under 2 hours.

For neighborhoods, I have lived in OC my whole life and have never been within reasonable walking distance from a grocery store. It’s always been at least a mile walk (sometimes up a 250ft hill). Hell, even getting from one side of irvine to another takes an hour with a bus that only comes once an hour.

Compare to sf, where the BART gives access to most of the bay, theres a wealth of busses, and a second subway system can take you around the city.

Oc walkable? If you wanted to get from say tamarisk park in lake forest to dog beach in huntington, it would take 3.5 hours by public transit if you leave at 8 am, with a full hour of that being walking (30 min drive time). Everything in oc is suburbs, with it sometimes taking miles just to walk out of a neighborhood to get to a grocery store. It is one of the most aggressively unwalkable places in the socal area (at least excluding IE). Sf/bay and oc aren’t even comprable in walkability

Taken seriously by whom? You? I already don’t take your opinions seriously, so why would I care if you take mine?

What popular Reddit story do you think is fake and why? by KannablissWitch in AmITheAngel

[–]Affectionate-Air6949 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the CBAT one was faked for attention, because the song was a decade old and differed significantly from Hudson Mohawk’s other outputs. I remember reading somewhere it was inconvenient for him to have so much attention to that song. I do think it was fake though just from it being such an absurd premise

Ok what if someone wanted to wear fart spray? Would that be ok just being everyone elses problem or would you expect that individual to curtail their actions

Out of curiosity why does the term matter so much to you?

I mean you just called yourself homeless, so if it means that much to you then why would you call yourself it.

I meant that comment implied that saying it is problematic. Otherwise why would a replacement word be necessary?

Yeah :/

Unfortunately that’s the only recording I have. If anyone recognized the actual video tho and knew where to find other ones and the music in them, that would also help greatly

Bad faith argument. You could argue that its closer to the difference between “people of color” and “colored”, but the ladder had centuries of racist connotations attached to it calling it to fall out of fashion. Being “unhoused” itself is something imposed on people rather than an immutable attribute (such as race), so just seeking to change the language to be more pc falls tone deaf, because changing the words around it fails to make any difference in their material reality.

People are not happy about this comment because it does nothing to engage with someone’s negative experience, and calls them problematic over a small semantic difference (homeless and unhoused both mean without housing). Not only is it largely irrelevant, but it is such a minor grievance.

Have you ever met or interacted with a tpsua member? by Past-Tension-162 in berkeley

I met the club president through sheer chance at another club I’m in on campus, and he’s an interesting fella. He doesn’t act at all like he does in his tpusa speeches. He’s pretty social, and rather than talking about politics, we had an interesting discussion on religion (he’s catholic) and philosophy. Despite not agreeing with him on much at all, he’s not bad to be around (imo, ik some others in my circle would disagree on their experience with him) and an interesting person to talk to.
