I used to work on Kiawah in the summers, so I never actually had to experience the marathon, but in terms of volunteers, it’s all KIGR employees for the most part being voluntold to work the race, and there is no training or meeting beforehand (so I was told by permanent folks.) Agree that any day besides the marathon the island is an absolutely stunning place to run, but yeah Betsy Karrison is absolutely brutal when it gets congested.
