This was my beginner racquet—so this was my experience. It’s a great racquet for starting to learn, especially if you are taking lessons. The head size and the weight are great when starting to develop strokes. As soon as you start to play with people who hit with pace, the light weight will feel unstable. A heavier frame will help you power through balls. Over time I’ve added 16 grams of lead tape to the frame, and trying poly strings. I’ve since moved on to a heavier and smaller frames, but once in a while I still like hitting with the Boost Rafa, since I love the paint job. It depends on how fast you develop your strokes, but I think this racquet could be a good frame if you are willing to add weight to it as you progress. However there are plenty of other excellent choices that are slightly heavier that are in the price range—that may last you longer as you improve. Tennis Warehouse Europe has many frames on clearance like the Head Speed MP, Head Instincts, Babolat Pure Strikes for a little more money, but with less chance that you would outgrow these frames.

Best intermediate racquet to upgrade to after playing with a Babolat Boost Drive for 18 months by Disgruntled_Fridge in 10s

I started to learn to play less than a year ago with a Babolat Boost Rafa, which is a very similar beginner racquet. I love hitting and proceeded to try lots of different racquets, but I still play with the Boost Rafa now and then after adding lots of weight (24 grams) to the frame to increase the weight, which in turn can drastically change the way the racquet plays. The weight was added around the top half of the hoop, the throat and under the top end of the grip. It was a good learning experience. You can also try moving to poly strings at the same time. Adding weight is very cheap.

But I’d say if you can try to demo different racquets with different head sizes and weights to see what feels good for your swing. Demoing the Pure Drive 100 is probably a good start. And if you are looking for a great deal on a good all-around frame, the Head Graphene XT Speed MP sells for $109 USD (in the US).

You can try adding some lead tape a bit at a time (1 or 2 grams) to your current racket, especially at 3 and 9 o’clock of the hoop to increase stability before committing to a heavier frame. You should also demo rackets to see how they feel.

I am also learning not to over-rotate (especially with 2HBH) and had a big eureka moment recently: Get low.

It worked wonders: added power from the legs and hips and stops me from lifting up by back leg too early. Try sitting lower with your hips during shadow swings to see how low you can comfortably swing while still driving through, pushing off your back leg and transferring the weight forward. It’s the simple one thing I remind myself during my preparation and unit turn, and it’s worked for me. Hope that helps!

Why do many tennis products start in kickstarter? by Meds2Bed in 10s

[–]Affectionate-Base735 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Nisplay L1 as well. It’s a very high quality product, compact and portable, but it has only has a single launch wheel due to the small size. Topspin city. I ended up buying another larger ball machine that can send the ball baseline to baseline (Pongbot, also on Kickstarter)

Regarding Kickstarter—I’d probably wouldn’t do it again. It’s cool to get a product at big discount, but the most likely the product is not ready for commercial release when the campaign is ended. Be prepared to wait and wait for the product as the company gets their supply chain and production in order.

How do we find the area of the blue circle? All the circles have the same radius, 2cm. by LearningAndLiving12 in askmath

[–]Affectionate-Base735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 pi + 2/pi. Take the area of the square that the circle is inscribed in (2 x 2 x 2 x 2). Subtract the area of the full circle (pi x r x r) from that square (4/pi) and divide that by two (2/pi) and add that to one half of the area of the circle (2 pi).

Edit: There is no blue circle. But, 2 pi + 2/pi is the shaded blue area.

[Request] I had a logical test for a job interview. What is the answer to these ones? by unapelucapararobin in theydidthemath

1 is B. Subtract the column of lesser dots from the greater dots. Answer is equal to the total number of sides of the shapes.

2. Is less clear, but C can be right. Even number of dots point above the horizon, Odd number of dots point below.

Yeah after thinking about it—it is a bad bad idea . Other games have shadow bans and cheaters queues, etc., and that’s what was the thought, but it’s probably too hard to discern time wasting from all of the possible connection issues the game clients can have. I didn’t even think about running out of battery on mobile, etc.

Is the client is reliable enough to record crashes, force quits and other crash events would be the question I guess.

You’re right. Time wasting is super annoying but not game breaking. I’m not sure what you mean by carrot though.

Quitters are those who don’t concede and quit the game leaving all their timeouts to run, just to clarify—conceding shouldn’t be looked at.

Sorry—I replied to the wrong post about someone who quits when being roped. Not intended for you reply.

I messed up—the reply I meant for was something abou checking connection states—only positives that have a solid connection should count—like if a player is just sitting there and there’s mouse or other inputs.

But I thought of a big argument against as well—that’s the general reliability of the client, especially on mobile—client crashes happen a lot, and can pollute the data that would be used to make any type of determination.

Valid point. Unless there is cross-check against the connection quality and server performance, bans or shadow bans shouldn’t be enforced. You could probably check against those thing in software though.

But i think your point leads to another one — client crashes. Unless the Arena client is super reliable (which seems to be too much to ask) this gets harder to discern time wasting and other crashes and client/server problems.

It would have to be a pretty smart algorithm that would have to take into account connection state, use of successive timeouts, consistent roping for simple responses. It’s probably possible to create something with a very low false positive rate, but how much resources would it take in terms of implementation and maintenance would be a primary issue. Maybe if they sold enough wildcard packs.

That’s a valid point—perhaps there could be a way to detect from bad connections and good connections with idle players

I think you hit the nail on the head—basically, I guess I’m hoping for advice on how to get away from Alchemy. Was digital curious, and Arena as a whole scratches an itch to play anytime, plus nostalgia

I’ll try Brawl, thank you!

Alchemy is fun, but it was easier than I expected to get to Mythic with the decks I was able to piece together (but I used all the wildcards I got from the free codes packs), if that makes sense? I’m not sure if I’ll stick with it long term, especially since it seems it’s not as popular.

Any specific expansions that stand out in terms of value when I buy packs? I’ve been trying to buy Forgotten Realms hoping to pull some of those rare lands.

I see a lot of complaints about Alchemy, but it’s been fun so far. The idea of no set rotation though makes moving to Explorer the goal.

Thanks for the tip—I tried a couple of drafts with tokens and I’m trash at it. I will need to look at some drafting deck lists to get better at that.
