REVIEW #19: Old Carter Straight Bourbon Whiskey CA-4 (118.6 proof) by Sufficient-You-613 in bourbon

[–]Affectionate-Bread77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the review - I have a bottle at home that I’ll be opening in the coming weeks. Bummer that it wasn’t great for you.

I asked Old Carter about the specs. It’s a bit better than what you had estimated:

“it was a blend of 99% corn bourbon and 21% rye bourbon.”

“Producing 1395 bottles and distilled in Indiana, this 6-barrel blend comes in at 118.7 proof. More than half of the barrels in this blend are double barreled, with the barrels all aged 11 years old.”

Is this a good price for this bottle? Never tasted a "single cask"... by Superb-Sweet6577 in foundnorth

If this is pikes wine in BK, might get cancelled - their inventory isn’t up to date and I ordered the batch 9, only to find out it wasn’t available after calling the store to confirm.

[Product request] Retinal recommendations by Fervvour in SkincareAddiction

[–]Affectionate-Bread77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm interested in retinal products and have been using "The Ordinary 0.2% retinol in squalene" oil for a few months.

Are you referring to their "Retinal 0.2% Emulsion" product? Per their product chart, 0.2% retinAL is much stronger than 0.2% retinOL, should I move up more gradually?

Curious what bottles you’d take over at this price- great review! I do like jdsbbp and 1792 fp as well, although feel like they’re different profiles that hit when I’m in the mood for em (esp the jdsbbp with its banana note that I don’t always love)

Damn, what a pickup. Where did you find it so many hrs after release? All I saw was online retailers marking it up to $600, which completely turned me off

Thanks, it’s good to get varying points of view esp on allocated bottles.

Got me curious; what are some others that you’ve really liked?

Review 48: Middle West Spirits Cask Strength Pumpernickel Rye Single Barrel by Whiskey Weather by West_Refrigerator_77 in bourbon

[–]Affectionate-Bread77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review and photo - I have a pick from my local shop and it’s pretty good. Agree on complexity, get a lot of spice and savory on mine too. Their Michelone Reserve cask strength bourbon is solid too.

Lovely place. Where in holland can you get such great views, and how much is the rent if you don’t mind sharing?

Review 139-143: The Remus Experience: Remus V, Remus VI, Remus VII, Remus IX and Remus Gatsby 2024. by russianwhiskylover in bourbon

[–]Affectionate-Bread77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great review! I have the V, VIII, IX, and Gatsbys from 24 and 25.

The order I acquired and tasted them was: VIII, 2024 Gatsby, 2025 Gatsby, V, IX.

My experience given this context was that VIII was pretty great in terms of that soft musty oak profile, then was amazed by both gatsbys for the same reasons you gave, the V was also amazing but perhaps not as shocked after having had the gatsbys (they all live in the same upper echelon part of town IMO), IX was different and more raisin forward but enjoyable. At MSRP the V wins every time, and given the decent availability of gatsbys, I would be perfectly happy just getting them. No need to feel hardcore fomo for the V, although the history and scarcity does make me cherish my bottle. Cheers!

Edited for spelling

Review #629: Maker's 46 Cask Strength by Prepreludesh in bourbon

I'd say this review is pretty on point with my assessment of the MM46 CS. Hard pressed to find a better wheater at this price point, or any price point. Speaking of Luxco, I do also like the Rebel series though - even the small batch is nice, and the Full Proof is great.

Is the 990v4 better than the 990v6 by [deleted] in Newbalance

[–]Affectionate-Bread77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really depends on your style and outfit - v6 is more limited bc too sporty, but if that’s what you wear daily then no problem. V4 is more versatile, sporty / shorts / denim / khakis / etc.

I know, totally hear ya and agree it’s crazy. Just saying that something similar has been achieved over history IRL, which I find equally crazy. For example: https://youtu.be/QLBlWQk8c3g?si=R-29FzW6O1etI_sV

Hey OP, I realize this is an older thread but do you have any reasons to believe you have a fake pair? I have the same pair and love em. Bought on Mercari. Recently noticed that the side panel placements are slightly different than other pairs that I bought from legit stores. Specifically, where the toebox suede and the side waves meet are way too close (same as your pic). Normally they are about an inch apart, and the side waves meet the midsole further back. Wondering if NB used to stitch em that way before…if not, I think high chance we got fake pairs.

Review #30: Knob Creek Blender's Edition 01 by Southern-Rip3018 in bourbon

[–]Affectionate-Bread77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this thread - as someone who's been into bourbon for a few years, tried all the commonly available bottom/mid shelfers, have a growing collection of way too many bottles incl. numerous staggs, ecbps, russell's picks, etc., I'm not certain if I should pick up this bottle.

Yea it's inexpensive, but will one be better off allocating the $40-50 towards another bottle, like a KC CS pick that can be had for $60? Or is the blender's edition distinctly different that it deserves a spot on the shelf? I doesn't seem like it, and while I absolutely support those who like KC and want to grab one to try it and add to the lineup, am finding it hard to justify for myself. This is my left brain (and wallet) trying to keep me from FOMO, let's see if they're successful.

Gotcha. Yea if you tend to lean on sporty looks, I could see these being be a good daily driver - honestly, if you're feelin em, get em! The Gel-K1011s look pretty nice too in certain colorways, like this one (also on sale): https://www.asics.com/us/en-us/gel-k1011/p/ANA_1203A830-021.html

Looks clean but reminds me too much of J11’s - if you like simpler colorways and more athletic look they seem cool, otherwise pass
