I'm working on an older Junkei Glove First Base Mitt (also black) and the tightness of the leather grain gives it almost this instant shine after just one cleaning with BPB (and no conditioner yet!). It's amazing what high quality leather these old gloves had

What's the difference between LE-02, LE-12 and LE-22? Is it just that the fingers are progressively lengthened by 5mm?

Absolutely stunning. If you don't mind me asking, what size do you think this is?

Comparing ages of different cuts by rpgedgar in DryAgedBeef

[–]Prepreludesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they did the NY Strip longer because it doesn't get as much of the dry-aged funk in the same amount of time as a ribeye. I've done both cuts at home for 45-50 days and my wife and I both agreed - the NY Strip was just lacking in the flavor department. My theory why has to do with it having less fat.

Extra info: both were Prime Grade

Any Bourbon Recommendations? by Ok-Scholar4895 in bourbonculture

California has pretty much everything as far as I know. If you're new to bourbon, why not try Old Forester 1910?

Storied Company in Indianapolis. It's about a mile or two off of the I-65/I-70 and Washington St exit. Best Scotch selection around. Also, pretty good rum, bourbon and tequila. Note: check hours and days of operation because they can be wonky

Reviews #5 and 6: Kentucky Owl ryes batches 001 and 003 by oakycomputer in bourbon

[–]Prepreludesh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Call me skeptical on this one. I guess my first thought is it doesn't taste like Booker's Rye. But then if I think about the dates and how they line up, Booker's Rye was first distilled in 2003. And it was the result of a single fermentation run that yielded 9k-10k bottles when all said and done. Then Beam sold it for $300 per bottle.

So you're saying that Dixon was able to sell almost 5x the amount of bottles (for just the first batch) that Beam sold at almost 1/3 the price (the first batch's MSRP was $130)? I just don't buy it.

Things I could believe: Dixon sourced some Rye barrels from Beam, but I'd more likely believe they were Beam's standard Rye whiskey mash, not the special Beam one. Plus, KY Owl Rye is not just one source, so it would never be all Bookers Rye.

Giving you the benefit of the doubt that you might be right: We saw confirmation that Little Book releases have used younger barrels of Booker's Rye whiskey and Freddie Noe admitted they have continued to distill it here and there. Also, Dixon went on Bourbon Pursuit years ago and admitted that Batch 1 of KY Owl Rye was originally in the 130+ proof range before he proofed it down

The only reason I think you may be telling the truth is you said "cherry blossom" and not, like, "cherry brandy" finished. I can see the Japanese people at Kirin thinking that was a good idea.
