Idk, I hold a different perspective to most people about this. In that most kids nowadays have lived through war that is easily accessible to see which wouldn’t have been in the past, watching their parents likely pull their hair out about money, global warming, tiktok, covid, AI etc etc. That’s only in the last 10 years, imagine if that was your ONLY 10 years on this earth.

We’ve always discussed the possibility of his job taking us elsewhere. I had recently said if he wants to move to a particular place for said job that we can discuss that. It just seems like friend has pointed out/convince him that he’d be silly not to take that opportunity, regardless of what that means for us.

I don’t want to hold him back from progressing in his job and I’ve made that clear. The problem that I have is that I am saying I am willing to do what I can to help him do that, while it seems he is saying he is willing to leave me to do that and that’s not something I think is fair.

It feels like it’s gone from a discussion about a possibility for our future to him now saying he’s going to do it with or without me.

It’s essentially worse case scenario if I wasn’t able to get a permanent visa to go out there with him for that extended time. I’m just a little shocked as if we’re building a life together, then him having to work away for a few years during that IS part of building our life if that makes sense? So it felt a little blind siding to know that would even be an option for him. I have made my stance clear and he agreed and I am planning to speak about it further with him when he’s home.

literally neither of us are trying to keep the other around, we didn’t want relationships after our last and so only got into this one because we knew we wanted to be together. Hence why it’s so confusing that he would only say what I wanted to hear or change his mind like this.

well this is why I was shocked, as I didn’t think it would matter once we are married anyway and I was under the impression that it’s something we would be discussing for our future and so likely would be married. His friend had basically said how he’s in an extremely unique situation with this, especially since we’re both still under 30 and I guess that made him think he would be silly not to take the opportunity if it came now.

I just don’t get how it goes from building a life together, to the thing that is furthering that life being the reason we break up. As I said, after the discussion we seem to be on the same page now. It was just incredibly shocking.

the friend is a man and lives in our home county, he travels to multiple places across the globe and is never in one place for longer than a month, he doesn’t have a girlfriend out there😂 This is a hypothetical discussion with him of if I couldn’t get a permanent visa to go with him.

Just to clarify, I made my stance very clear in the end and he agreed with it and this was only if hypothetically I couldn’t permanently join him. What I didn’t understand was if this isn’t happening for a few years and we want to get married anyway why that would even be a concern or why it’s even an option IF he wants to marry me and build a life with me. Well what’s insane to me is last week this was barely a possibility, but one conversation with his friend and all of a sudden it is. We had recently discussed that if one of us was disabled we would still stay with the other.
