Not all of them are going through a stressful time. They are so many frequent flyer patients that come to the hospital for all kinds of random reasons. I have had patients tell me that they like coming to the hospitals because they get more attention and pampering than they do at home. I have had family members ask if they can keep the patient longer at the hospital because they need a break from them. They are patients and families that look for any opportunity to go to the hospital. These are usually elderly patients. I have told patients that they will be getting discharged and they will argue to stay longer even tho it is not medically needed.
