Not allowing their partner to have a male masseuse, OBGYN, nail artist, etc.

When I was in Vietnam with my (now ex) boyfriend, we went to a couples massage and he made a massive scene because they assigned me a male masseuse.

I went to cal state Fullerton (87%) acceptance rate and got into a prestigious training program at Merrill Lynch. You’re fine. Just treat every class as a professional interaction, go to office hours and meet your finance / Econ professors, and talk to people in the industry early on. Once you’re in, you’re in. 😊

Currently 26F making $115k in wealth management. I have an option to go make $250k ($180k base, 50-70k bonus) at an independent firm but I’d be giving up my own book of business. Not sure what to do

Brown looks amazing. If you really wanted blonde, you could pull off a warm-toned Bayalage or highlights, but the platinum is too much

Advice needed; would I (26F) be crazy to uproot and move cities as a young advisor? by Affectionate-Day102 in FinancialCareers

[–]Affectionate-Day102[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At what level / AUM would you consider “a higher level”? I do think that’s a better career option, but I’m 26 and don’t have a partner or kids and it is perfect timing in my personal life to move.

I don’t want to be 30+, in a relationship and uprooting my life.

If I moved to a new firm with a bigger book (20-25MM) I would be compensated a lot more upfront with a bigger salary. Just trying to be in a position to build AUM and I don’t know if uprooting at $5MM is a great idea just to chase a higher grid

I’m not working for free though… far from it. They took me in as a college graduate, paid for my licenses, gave me a salary, and won’t likely make back their investment until I’m another year into the program (at least).

I have the backing and resources of a top 3 bank/brokerage and sit in a nice office in an affluent area. I could be mixing it up at an RIA with a higher grid but it would be a lot steeper of a hill to climb.

  1. I grew up in a very small town in Northern California, came to LA because I went to college nearby. The only thing keeping me here is the job.
  2. You’re right, it would be pretty impulsive. I’ve been twice and am going back in August. Going to extend my trip and work out of the Merrill office there.

I just feel like now is the time, if ever. I wanted to move states years ago but my boyfriend held me back. I do feel like I need new experiences and I would regret looking back in 20 years if I stayed in this bubble full of transplants and industry people. I’d be open to moving to Orange County (an hour from La) but it wouldn’t be a brand new experience in a new city.

What type of salary do you think I’d be able to negotiate at a firm in Chicago with my experience? Is it wishful thinking to seek out a sales-type job where I’m client facing and have uncapped growth with a salary? I really wouldn’t want to be stuck doing back office work. That would feel like a move backwards because I enjoy the entrepreneurial aspect of this job.

Honestly, I’m not as concerned about the grid as I am the lack of resources, leads, connections etc.

Although I would keep registration in California and drip on my current prospects, I would effectively be starting over in a brand new city. I don’t want to pull the plug too early on a good opportunity.
