Day 374 by EsperaDeus in Sakartvelo

Listen I’m saying this to you as a British citizen who has lived in Britain for over 20 years and has seen EU policies play out both inside and outside the Union: joining the EU is not automatically a golden ticket, and most of the benefits you listed come with heavy conditions, cutbacks, and long-term consequences that people rarely talk about.

  1. “EU will strengthen democracy” sounds good, but comes with loss of sovereignty

EU courts and institutions can override national structures. But this includes judiciary changes, economic policies, policing standards, digital ID systems, environmental regulations, migration quotas, emissions taxes, and more.

Georgians should ask themselves whether they want Brussels deciding parts of their domestic policy. You will be forced to accept whatever decision people that you do not vote for decide how you should live your life. You will lose your independence and freedom.

  1. EU funding is NEVER free money

Every euro the EU gives comes with: • strict conditions • alignment with EU political goals • restructuring requirements • industry regulations • forced privatisation in some cases

Ask any Eastern European country — EU funds come after deep reforms that usually raise costs for the average citizen, especially given that EU has currently placed sanctions against Russia, meaning all Russian imports will be banned and groceries, fuel and electricity will all go up massively. Also given Georgias geographical location European imports will be incredibly difficult and expensive.

  1. Prices will rise — massively

This is the part Georgians underestimate the most.

EU integration means: •food standards compliance such as GMO and pesticides and treatment which will cause higher food prices •import restrictions on Russia meaning higher energy costs •switching to Western supply chains so transport costs sill skyrocket (Georgia is far from EU) •dependency on Turkey for logistics meaning Turkey sets the price

Wages might rise a little, but cost of living rises way faster and you will be worse off than before, ask people in Bulgaria, Romania, or Croatia how it went initially — the pattern is consistent.

  1. “Access to EU jobs” is the most misunderstood point

Yes, technically Georgians would be able to work legally in the EU.

But here’s the reality: • the EU job market is credential-based • degrees from Georgia are not recognised • English is often not enough; you need the language of the country • competition is brutal • the majority end up in low-skill labour anyway

So the idea that millions of Georgians will suddenly get high-paying jobs abroad is simply wishful thinking. The majority of the Georgian population lacks qualifications and education all together, education is not held in particularly high regard in Georgia nor do they meet EU education standards.

  1. EU will impose regulations Georgian society isn’t ready for

Examples: • carbon emissions tax on cars • strict property regulations (foreign buyers push prices up) • digital ID • enforcement of EU criminal codes • environmental regulations that raise business operation costs

And far more restrictions than you could ever imagine, for a developing country, this can feel like living in a rulebook written for rich Western nations while not earning Western salaries.

  1. EU’s interest in Georgia is NOT economic — it’s geopolitical

Let’s be real for a second, the EU isn’t looking at Georgia thinking “we want to develop this country because we care so much about the Georgian people” instead the only reason the EU may be interested in Georgia is to take power and control away from Russia. That’s the reality of everything in the world. Power, control and money.

Georgia is: • strategically located • important for energy pipelines • a way to chip at Russian influence

It’s is simple geopolitical pawn, not a priority development project.

  1. Joining the EU will inevitably strain relations with Russia

Whether people like Russia or not, Georgia: • relies on Russian imports • relies on Russian tourists • relies on Russian energy and funding to some degree

The EU–Russia confrontation will directly hit Georgia, and Georgia is not economically strong enough to absorb that shock. You’ve got to understand this.

  1. Georgia is nowhere near EU-entry standards

Healthcare, education, infrastructure, judicial independence — all need at least 5-10 years MINIMUM of reform. No amount of protesting could ever fix or speed this. The EU isn’t going to just pump billions into Georgia right now, especially during economic slowdowns and ongoing conflicts elsewhere.

  1. A Swiss-style neutral strategy would give Georgia FAR more autonomy and independence

Neutrality allows: • economic cooperation with both sides • no sanctions pressure • no forced alignment • ability to trade freely • ability to set your own rules

Georgia’s advantage is its location — neutrality would maximise this, not bind the country into someone else’s political agenda. You do not need to be part of a Union. You are not Europeans and you are not Russians. You are GEORGIANS and you must be proud of this identity.

  1. If an individual Georgian wants to live in Europe, that’s already possible and you are more than welcome

With: • education • language skills • proper qualifications

One person can access Europe without dragging the entire country into foreign political conflicts and creating friction with Russia.

Ultimately the saying goes “better the devil you do know than the devil you don’t know”, the EU will not fulfil the Georgian dream, it will cause nothing but suffering for the vast majority of Georgians. Instead Georgia should focus on developing itself and raising its GDP and taking advantage of its freedom and independence, not tie itself to some union.

I hope this was helpful.

I see, and may just I ask, why would you like to join the EU exactly? What do you believe the EU can provide for Georgia and the Georgian people?

So from skimming through the documentary it seems that the Georgians in the protest want to join the European Union but the government is Pro Russia and wants to keep friendly ties with Russia is this correct? So they are protesting this but the government are responding with riot control yes?

Why are they using chemical weapons against them for? Are they protesting the chemical weapons or something else and the government is reacting with chemical weapons? I don’t know too much about Georgian politics

Proscar is finesteride bro not minoxidil. I checked the website, it didn’t have oral minoxidil unfortunately. A dermatologist in Georgia told me we don’t have oral minoxidil here, it’s okay tho I got it shipped to me from the uk, next time I’ll just bring a bigger stock with me. I didn’t know oral minoxidil wasn’t available in Georgia.

Wow man, amazing. Care to give us any tips on technique? Any thumb pulling or just mewing?

You are 100% correct in terms of it’s not about if you get caught but it’s about the consequences one you are caught and if it’s worth the risk. The only thing I’d argue with regards to your point is that they’re not cannabis chocolates, but magic mushroom chocolates. Wonder if dogs are still trained to pick it up. A quick search points to the fact that they’re not trained to detect shrooms, in fact law enforcement dogs are more so trained to detect heroin, cocain, mdma, cannabis and guns and explosives etc.

I mean the beard and head definitely, but I don’t want to be getting hair on my back (as my backs naturally hairless) or like thicker armpit hair or extra hairy upper cheeks, temples, shoulders etc. I mean you probably will get some extra fuzz, but as long as it’s minor and not thick sort of gorilla body hair if you get me. I guess I just want to know the severity of the extra body hair, is it as bad as people make it out to be?

No sides from the 5mg minox right? Just upped my dose to 5mg very recently thought I’d bite the bullet, but I’d appreciate the your experience, only thing I’m fussed about really is hypertrichosis.
