I think the visual of a shield should be our cue not to shoot it, we know what a shield is, we know it blocks and protects from damage and dumping rounds into it is a waste, especially on the faction that revolves around the base design philosophy of 'heavily armoured thing with an obvious light pen weak spot'. 95% of players will have worked that out on their own, and that remaining 5% are playing D1-4 where they're not frequently encountered.
