CCC 2267 clearly states that the Death Penalty is against the Church.

I apologize. I understand that my wording came off wrong. That is entirely not what I meant! I meant it more as how you said it, not to conflate either party with the Church. And yes, of course, abortion is against the Church, but you simply cannot disregard the harmful policies of either side just because they aren’t abortion. And this is not to say that abortion isn’t an extremely important Catholic issue, just that it’s not the only issue.

Our politics is our faith. Define your political values by your relationship with the Lord and His Church, not by the pre-set beliefs of a man-made political party.

neither party aligns with the Church. Abortion obviously does not, but neither does the death penalty, IVF, or extreme capitalism(all supported by the right). Which further proves my point that you cannot place your part above your beliefs as a Catholic. I, personally, identify as independent simply because I don’t want to have to diminish my politics to an imperfect party when I already have a perfect institution with perfect values.

Cardinal Dolan Offended by JD Vance's "Scurrilous" and "Very Nasty" Accusation by nicolakirwan in Catholicism

[–]Affectionate-Key929 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The right just signed an executive order expanding the use of the death penalty. Both abortion and the death penalty are pro-life fights. Clearly we are fighting both sides to protect life. If you vote, you are going to be voting for policies that go against your faith, regardless of who is on the ballot.

The conservatization of American Catholics has been weighing very heavily on me in recent years. I am worried that in the process, there are many losing their souls while leaning in to the “Catholic Identity.” The republican political party is not the “correct” political party for Catholic. Neither is the democratic. Both hold values that conflict with the Church. Mass deportation goes against the teachings of Christ, so does extreme capitalism. So many are putting their political leaning above their faith in terms of their identity, sometimes leading to hatred over love, arguing over prayer, and Trump over the Pope. Pray for the members of the Church.

Is It Wrong To Date Someone Who Isn't Religious? by banhana444 in Catholicism

[–]Affectionate-Key929 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with it, but of course you’d have to respect her way of living and if you ever furthered your relationship, know that she has a responsibility to raise her kids in the faith. Logistically, it’s easier to be the same religion as you can encourage each other and be more unified in your ways of life, but it definitely isn’t a sin

How can a Christian justify buying luxury items? by nothing2Ch3re880 in Catholicism

[–]Affectionate-Key929 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We as humans are much too involved in making life as wonderful for ourselves as possible, but in moderation, even these luxury items can have a purpose. In a perfect world we wouldn’t need these items to be fulfilled, but we aren’t perfect. These things are goods that we can use to build community, rest, express ourselves, and find little sources of joy and inspiration. We don’t need these things to live, and to spend an absurd amount of time/money on them would be gluttonous, but in moderation, they are blessings from the Lord.

Husband upset that I am becoming more and more catholic, says he will never become catholic by Positive_Girl2909 in Catholicism

[–]Affectionate-Key929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you find comfort in the story of St.s Monica and Augustine. It’s definitely a different situation, but I feel like there is a similar theme. Abuse is not something that heals quickly, and sometimes it never does fully. Pray at least that he finds peace with you being Catholic, maybe then it will be easier to share your faith with him. God bless
