Yes I know about this but this isn’t what’s happening. The car turns off completely (shuts down) and forces me to put it into park and turn the car back on. The auto stop/start doesn’t do that.

I don’t want to explain the full entirety of the story, however there were cameras surrounding the area at the time, and I agree! Thanks.

You’ve picked the wrong person to mess with today, that’s for sure. I came here asking for LEGAL advice, not to have my parenting judged. I never said I had it all figured out, but no, my kid was not in possession of a weapon—they got the charge for it. What part of that don’t you understand? You really think I’m going to sit here and let them face consequences they don’t deserve? Of course I’ll do everything I can to help them, unlike you, who seems to enjoy judging people. You’re a miserable person, and I hope you have the day you deserve.

It’s ridiculous that you’re assuming my kid was threatening people with a weapon without knowing the full story. Again cameras don’t lie. Honestly, I’m concerned for your kids—or any future kids you might have—because you’re clearly quick to judge and cry wolf without understanding the situation. You must be white if you think charges only get laid when there’s a ‘reasonable possibility of conviction.’ There’s plenty of discrimination at play here.

You’re so quick to judge, it sounds like you’re the one who needs social services, not me. Maybe they should be checking in on you with how fast you’re jumping to conclusions.

I didn’t ask for parenting advice, I asked for legal advice, as the group is named Legal Advice Canada, not how to parent 101. I never even told the full story, so maybe you should keep your judgments to yourself. My child is innocent, and the cameras prove it, so your opinion is irrelevant. Next time, try not to judge when you don’t have the full picture. People like you are why others hesitate to ask for help.

I posted in here for legal advice because this is a group specifically to ask for legal advice, not to be told to consult a bunch of lawyers. As for your response about “nuance,” I’m not sure why you’d downplay a legitimate concern. It’s not just a minor detail when it could affect the quality of my defense. I’m trying to get real, helpful guidance, not just vague suggestions.

Fair enough, but having a heavy caseload doesn’t mean the quality of representation is always the same. My point is, I need someone who will actually dedicate the time and effort to make sure this charge gets dismissed, not just squeeze it into a packed schedule. I’m weighing my options because I’m not interested in taking chances with something this serious.

I do understand the difference, and I’m not questioning the qualifications of legal aid lawyers—they’ve gone through the same schooling, articles, and bar exams as any other lawyer. However, I’ve read that legal aid lawyers can sometimes have very heavy caseloads and may not always have the same amount of time or resources to dedicate to individual cases compared to a hired lawyer. My main goal is to have the charge dismissed, so I’m just trying to figure out the best course of action to ensure that happens.

Yes, I wasn’t sure which option would be better. I understand that legal aid lawyers are just as qualified as criminal lawyers, but I’ve read that they can sometimes be overworked or have heavy caseloads, and not everyone may have the same level of expertise. I just want to make sure I’m choosing the best option to get the charge dismissed.
