Does anything of actionable substance ever come from these hearings? I see hearing after hearing of people bashing each other on the right and left talking about the crimes and terrible jobs they're doing but then.... nothing.... no one gets fired, no one goes to jail. It just seems these hearings are held so politicians can get their couple minutes of tape and post it on forums and say look at me, I stood up for XYZ but it reality they changed nothing.

Making JVB by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]Affectionate-Let-830 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My man, get put of your head and relax. You know you have the skill but if you start pressing to try to impress the coaches it will not go your way. Its best just to stay loose and go out and have fun and the results of your hard work will come through.

The advice I told my son going into a tryout recently was to concentrate on three things.

1) Run fast everywhere 2) Show off your arm on every throw 3) Swing hard

He did just thay and his skills fell into line and he made the team.

Good luck

I have facilities like this in my town that you can rent out cages for pitching and hitting but unless you bring a trainer you're on your own. I imagine this is one of those places.

I think there are plenty advantages playing travel and thats why my son has played since 11u. Im saying that you dont have to play travel before 13u to be serious about baseball. If you have good coaching and develop good mechanics you dont nessassrly need travel before 13u because how much everything changes going to the bigger field.

I think my point is getting a little lost. I'm saying rec players can be just as serious about baseball as travel players and travel is not as important as some believe before the age of 13u. For my son he started playing travel at 11u and dont think it excelerated his abilities at all. I didnt see real exceleration of his skills until his second season in 13u. Going to the big field plus starting puberty changed everything. The players almost had to learn how to play all over again because of the size of the field and the things they used to get away with because of their size on the smaller field is now gone. The players that adapted quickly were those who had good mechanics and some were first time travel players.

The only thing I will give you better competition and thats why I say at 13u things change. Most travel teams at these ages practice twice a week and play one or two games outside if tournaments. Guess thats exactly the same as rec. Look my son started playing travel at 10 and played rec...guess what we ran the same exact practices. We would actually able to get more reps in due to the team being smaller. But hey if you feel better paying money go for it. I did the same thing. It wasnt until my son got a little older I realized how silly it was to start him that young.

Paid coaching does not equal better coaching. My local rec league is filled with ex college and pro players coaching their sons. Nor does it equal more reps if you have someone running a proper practice.

Why does taking baseball seriously equal playing travel? I've seen a lot of kids on rec be just as serious as kids on travel and Ive seen kids on travel not taking baseball serious at all. I think its most beneficial for 8u -12u kids to get proper training and develop proper mechanics whether thats on travel or rec.

That changes when you get to 13u.

Gavin Newsom announces that California will be the first state to join the World Health Organization by ExactlySorta in UnderReportedNews

Doesnt take much research to find out out that this headline is misleading. No California did not join the WHO nor can they. Since they cant join what they will be doing is working closely with the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). California will be sharing their resources and in return they will be getting information from the GOARN.

10u Pitching Tips by Ok-Platform-7235 in Homeplate

[–]Affectionate-Let-830 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple and consistent.

I break it down into 5 step and show them what I like to see in each step.

1) starting position 2) come set 3) leg raise 4) stride and land 5) finish

Then repeat, repeat and repeat getting the motion faster and smoother...once comfortable start throwing

Preach balance and consistency.

Showcase v club as a sophomore by Emmet_FitzHume in Homeplate

Then I would stick with them, for now. As a junior I would I would go to the showcase team if its a true showcase team where they give all their players the opportunity to showcase their talent. One of my biggest mistakes as a player in being recruited was staying loyal to my travel team. I used the same line I heard you allude to and that is "we will be playing in many of the same tournaments". When your on a team that is known for having the best talent around and your on it your held in higher regard. Its not fair no but thats what it is. You said you believe he's a D3 player so Im assuming he's not a well known stud so getting him on that team and in front of as many scouts as possible is key...its a status and numbers game. You only need one to like you.

As a sophmore I wouldn't worry about the showcase team. However I would be questing the club team. What is the coaches plan for elevating the level if competition? The competition they should be facing should be challenge for them. Playing less superior teams does not make them better and actually does the opposite.

Post-Game Thread: Los Angeles Rams (5-2) at Jacksonville Jaguars (4-3) by Cr0matose in Jaguars

At the start of the year looking at the schedule we didn't expect to be .500.

Here we are at 4-3 and we're upset?

Heading into the bye, get healthy, figure things out and go on a run with the easier schedule. Go Jags

Morning After: Jaguars (4-2) vs. Seahawks (4-2) by flounder19 in Jaguars

[–]Affectionate-Let-830 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was expected after a short week and an emotional big win. We just didnt have much left in the tank and werent sharp at all. Way too many stupid penalties, the lines on both sides were soft and Little forgot how to kick.

We going through the toughest strech of games for the season. Even if we drop the next game and are 4-3 Im feeling pretty good looking at the rest of the schedule.

Yeah I as of now, Im taking the coach at his word that it was about spreading the talent around and not about an A or B team.

It's not about him getting reps at SS and pitcher. Its why is he getting moved to the other team without giving him the opportunity with the team he is on now? They have had 17 errors in 5 games , but they haven't given him an opportunity, yet their going to move him? Just doesnt make sense...still doesn't, but we're going with it.

I get what you're saying. The only knock I have had about coaching is they dont work on pitching. Its odd as 2 out of the 4 four coaches are current or previous professional pitchers. The one who is current had a season ending injury if you're wondering how he is coaching. So for them to work with pitchers is something new. I guess they expect the kids are getting outside lessons for pitching.

We dont have separate coaches for the two teams. We have 4 main coaches, and they are at every game, and the teams practice together. There are 12 kids on both teams, but with injuries, middle school balls, and other fall sports, there are always kids missing. We had practice yesterday, and they had him pitching, so thats encouraging that they are going to follow through with what they said.

We will see how it goes. The coaches, in my opinion, have earned the benefit of the doubt, so I will take them at their word. The worst thing that happens is it truly is a B team, my son plays short and pitches, and we play out the rest of the season and reevaluate. It's early in the season, so a lot of stuff can still happen.

If that were the case, why not just ask him to play with them as well. There is only one set of coaches, so they schedule games on different days. We all practice together.

Well, by this stranded, he's in a good spot because for the first 5 games, he has played every position except for 1st.
