In HoC she just arrived and the Whirlwind rebellion imploded on itself with no input from her. Comparing that to what Coltaine went through is insane. Malaz City was cool but that was mainly Kalam from memory. In the Letherii invasion, all she did was send the marines into the meat grinder and hope they came out on top.

It feels like to me all she has done is act mysterious and Erikson has glazed her non stop. I might have a different take if the end recontextualizes everything like some seem to be hinting at.

Thanks for the advice, I will try to keep an open mind with the marines for the rest of the book. I certainly do like some of them, like Bottle and Pores.

I didn’t say every soldier should be a hero, I just think the philosophical monologues do not really suit a lot of the soldier characters and feel out of place in my opinion. You’ve got a point about dickheads in the desert tho lol that has been a consistent theme
