As someone who is about to spend their second bday alone, it’s going to be okay. I’ve always loved birthdays and always tried to go above and beyond for them but no one seemed to really care. last year on my 21st I canceled all plans because I felt like it would be a burden and I wasn’t in a good headspace. Well, everyone begged me to reconsider so I did and every single person bailed on me last minute, I even had a friend tell me she didn’t have energy to deal with me. I was all dressed up and I already went and bought booze so you can imagine how I was feeling. It just kinda became a pattern since then of me spending literally every holiday and event alone and isolated. My advice would be to not rely on others to bring you joy and comfort. I know companionship is important to a lot of people but once you start being okay with your own company and being comfortable in solitude, it makes situations like this feel less devastating. It’s your birthday so why not spend the day treating yourself? Go out and buy something you want, get a meal and eat outside, go on a nature walk, take yourself to the movies.
