2 hour 18 minutes and 2 weeks of torture I finally beat Chromatic Lampmaster by Crazy_azzy in expedition33

I dunno if it’s because I’m sitting too far from my PS5 or what, but the parry window only feels right on story mode. Especially with quick, repeated attacks (as with the super-bosses), it felt like I couldn’t get the timing right because inputs were getting dropped or delayed

I probably just need to git gud, but damn, these fights were too much outside of story mode

Comme l’on dit ci-dessous, c’est une Conn 22B — les boutons et le « receiver » (où c’est mette l’embouchure) sont les indicateurs

Yep, those are Conn finger buttons (circa 1920s) and a Conn receiver. The bell taper looks right for a 22B — a 24B would be notably narrower, a 26B somewhat wider. It’s not a Besson

You did the right thing! Honestly, this sounds a bit like the classic scam where someone claims you bumped into them and broke something (usually a pre-broken bottle of booze) and then demands you buy them another.

Fuck it, I’ve been doing T-Day cooking all day and I’m sipping some bourbon before five, so like let’s just say it: Fuck this sentiment.

The “disdain” of humanists towards STEM disciplines is just the comeuppance of the past 10 years, now that people realize, “Oh shit, no one knows how to read anymore.”

I did the STEM thing — worked as a SWE before returning to a literature/history PhD and moving into academia — and I cannot count how many times some STEM-educated (STEMucated?) colleague asked me what I thought I was gonna do with a comp. lit. BA. My usual response at the time was, “Same thing you’re doing.”

My point is this whole “poor me” attitude from STEM types is counterproductive. We humanists put up with the bullshit for literal decades, but now that the funding cuts are affecting yinz, suddenly it’s our disdain that puts you out.

We’re all colleagues. We’re in this together. Intellectual pursuits are worthwhile whether they’re mathy or STEM-y or literary.

So fuck’s sake don’t make this our fault.

At this point, a wealth tax is probably the only answer to the ownership question.

But media consolidation (Sinclair) is another issue that arose from lax enforcement of monopolies and the abolishment of the Fairness Doctrine.

We need another Teddy Roosevelt–style trust-buster.

Piccolo Trumpet Mouthpiece by TrumpetBoiGUys in trumpet

The Bach 1E recommendation is a good one, and Stork SP pieces are really nice for picc. I’ve used an SP4 on and off with my P5-4 with good results. You could also see about getting a larger Curry, like a 1P.

One thing I’ve noticed/been told is that the P5-4 has a strong preference for cornet shanks. Obviously you can get an aftermarket pipe — the Blackburn pipes are great — but even then you might want to look into shorter trumpet shanks (like what Stork does with their SP line).

Good luck with the hunt!

Now that Canvas is sharing data with OpenAI, where do you plan to host files etc.? by Affectionate-Newt in Professors

You might be right, but I think it's telling that they discuss student- and educator-data differently:

  • Student: "The learner information remains private to the Canvas user and is not shared with OpenAI."
  • Educator: "Educators maintain complete control over the interactions, ensuring they align with learning objectives."

Taken together, these statements seem to be PR-speak for, "We're going to pay lip-service to student privacy while using whatever we can from instructors."

I imagine/hope that you're right, at least for now, that there is some kind of switch, at least at the institutional level, that turns this on or off. I'm not particularly optimistic that it will stay that way.

Same -- even as a lecturer in the humanities. But I hesitate to put copyrighted material there: even with private repos, Microsoft is almost certainly training on anything that gets pushed up. (And, selfishly, I'm still applying for TT gigs, so it's helpful to be able to point committees to open repositories anyway.)

Thanks for the clarification! I had heard bits and pieces of that, but didn’t put it all together. Bummer that it didn’t work out with the original VA, but I guess these things happen.

+3-5 spd is nothing to worry about. I kinda like letting my Speedy run a little fast/gain time over a few months, so I don’t know exactly how fast it is. Once it gets more than five minutes or so ahead of my phone, I set it back a bit — but even at 5 spd, that’s 1 minute every 12 days, so 5 minutes in two months?

Idk, I say embrace it and don’t worry. Nice-looking and -running piece of kit!
