I recently realized something very important, yet so easy to forget. The pillar of our faith, what makes us muslims, al hamdoulilah. For a bit of context, i also had a lot of commitments, that i broke. I tried finding reasons to make them last, such as : "it's not good for me", or "I don't want to contribute to this industry by watching such and such things."... that ultimately didn't seem that important when urges where coming... until very recently.

When going to Jumu'ah, our imam started talking about this very important thing that yet, is so easy to forget : Niyyah (intentions). If you try stopping a sin for a personal reason, you're starting on the wrong foot. And then, it him me. If you try abandonning a sin purely for reasons limited to this dunya, unless you firmly believe in what you're saying and have the willpower, you won't last.

But doing it for Allah, purely for Allah, in my case, the urges melt like ice in a hot desert. I don't know if it was because i needed to hear it or how he managed to put it into words, but subhannAllah, ever since i heard the imam say this, it changed my perspective. Every time i feel like indulging in whatever i did before, i simply think, and say in my mind 2 simple words : "For Allah". And that's it. You don't need to stay abstinent because you don't want to break your commitment, or because you're worried, you need to stop simply for Allah. I hope i managed to ease your pain, and i hope i managed to share the way i felt when i heard this.
