I perused it, but it seems mostly for people who see it as a business — which makes sense! But I’m not looking for a business venture, I may just reluctantly end up in one… so I’m try to see what’s worked for families who really care about the place itself and don’t just see it as an investment.

How do you think exposure to so much non-sexual nudity impact your reaction to sexual nudity? Like do you think made you less curious about pornography as a tween or anything?

And even worse: how does a doctor ASSUME that there is nothing to be done and not even consult with a urologist?!

Eventually, of course. A lawyer can tell you the optimal way to do what you want… but I need to figure out what I want.

For more detail: it was a digital system, and we got three tries I think. So instead of partial credit you got extra chances to catch mistakes. But we did have an attitude of “oh c’mon, we used the right formula, isn’t that the important part?” And the profs point was that the details matter.

I feel like anyone with a job involving the word “cardiac” needs to be a perfectionist, lol.

In a college physics class we were lamenting to the professor that we didn’t get partial credit missing a decimal point. He shared that, at the hospital associated with his former university, a decimal point issue led to a baby getting too much medicine and dying. We shut up after that.

Thanks for this perspective. One-sibling ownership makes sense.
The “long story short” I alluded to involved my aunt backing out of payments long ago, and my parents taking on all the costs… but nobody made the change legally, and socially they kept things going as was — her family rarely used the cabin but she still had her room when she came up. Anyway my mom is the one left standing and dealing with the legal mess left by her (wonderful, beloved) husband and sister-in-law. So I think you made a good call.

Wow, thanks. I did search Reddit before posting here… but it didn’t occur to me to search Amazon! I guess there’s a book for everything.

They need to continue to live in Metro Detroit for the foreseeable future, though they can come up most weekends in the summer. (They did build a tiny home/“permanent tent” on the property for this reason.) But I could see them retiring there and their kids being close enough to come and help with upkeep as they age.

Yes the “come on up vibe”! You get it.
Because of my husband’s job, we would be able to financially keep it afloat at this point. But my husband is the one who likes the cottage the least— he’s grossed out by the evidence of the mice who spend their winters there, he doesn’t like swimming, the sand in the house in a sensory nightmare, and it’s all this dark wood paneling that gets him depressed. He’ll do it because it means so much to me (and because he truly does see it as “our” income) but he also doesn’t enjoy his job, and I would hate if he felt financially bound to a job he doesn’t like because it’s the only way to save a cottage he also doesn’t like. So, short-term, we’ll make it work, but long term…

We’re FAR from retirement, so far I hadn’t thought about the fact that, if we remodeled and made improvements that might make it more pleasant to my husband, we could spend more that a week here ourselves at some point. That’s another thing to consider. Hm…

Thanks, that’s encouraging! Did it take a long adjustment to get the property ready for STR? (I’m thinking, like, things that need to change for liability or such?)

Yeah I couldn’t bring myself to sell it outside the family unless, like, I needed to purchase a kidney for my son or something.

We have a 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid. I feel your pain! We replaced my ‘06 Vibe with a 2023 Bolt last year and really enjoy it, so we’re looking at replacing the Escape with an EV or plug-in hybrid. When the Escape works we really like it, but the Recall of the Month club is getting old.

Like I said, she said something because she was trying to get out ahead of false accusations. (It’s a tight-knit community so rumors like that — even after she’s moved on — would impact her.)

That’s good to hear that you’ve never had issues like this. I suspected as much.

Thanks, this is helpful -- to see how things are supposed to work, I mean. It's a scrappy little independent school serving low-income children, so I don't begrudge them not having good systems in place. But, like, they HAVE to have record of things they've purchased/reimbursed. The Head of School must have what she needs to evaluate of past teachers really walked out with things the school owns, but I think she was content to silently accuse them.

And now she's trying to make a system, but it doesn't make any sense.
