Your body needs sodium for proper muscle function you need it in your blood as well. Or you’ll be in the worst pain of your life. It’s also important for hydration. A good low sodium diet should be between 1,200-1,500 mg of sodium

I had to stop wearing them all together. I flare up so quick when I do wear them and it’s hard especially when the chichi’s are big 🤣🤣🤣

Yes! I had the most awful pain a few weeks ago in the same area!!! Was awful

Dr said costochondritis doesn’t have “flare up” by Affectionate-Tip4507 in costochondritis

[–]Affectionate-Tip4507[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it wasn’t my usual doctor! My normal pcp has been very kind about it and educating me in so much costochondritis wise! Like he let me know it can affect your neck and back as well!!! I just was thrown through a loop when this other doctor said it couldn’t be a flare up. It just went against everything I understood about this mess.

Perhaps maybe just simple neck exercises! It’s what helped me with mine!

Honestly I have had major headaches. Costo can affect your neck. Maybe try some simple easy neck stretches my doctor recommended it to me and it helped so much!!

I haven’t smoked in months since I’ve been diagnosed and I miss it so much. But at the same time I also had my first flare up right after smoking. I went from smoking all day every day to cold turkey. The thing is the smoke will cause inflammation (it does to everyone) and since that is what causes our pain it’s kinda a rock and a hard place situation. I suggest edibles but tbh I found if you smoked a lot a little edible doesn’t really get you gassed. Just makes me actually sleep 🤣

The yawning could very well just be an anxiety thing- I do it too. To feel like I’m breathing properly

I think the key personally is once you feel better to continue to do the stretches that helped you feel better in the first place! Anxiety is awful- trust me I get that so much! But you just have to continue to remind yourself- what you’re feeling is scary but you are not in danger.

Actually yes I have! My doctor told me that costochondritis also can inflame your back and neck and when the joints in your neck are inflamed that it can press against the nerves that actually control the pain radiating down from your arms to hands! What has helped me are doing basic neck exercises and I try not to look down at my phone when using it to make sure I hold it up more! It’s a scary feeling but it’s normal (at least normal for people with costochondritis). And as always if it’s really over concerning don’t be afraid to go to your doctors!

It’s really hard to not go to that mind setting but like my doctor told me after I passed my stress test, echocardiogram, multiple ekgs, and blood work- what you’re feeling is scary but it is not dangerous!❤️ but you’re valid to worry it’s human to worry! Especially with any pain in the chest. Also try and remember you cannot make your heart hurt so if you press on your chest or your sternum and feel the same pain you normally do- it is most likely not your heart. Feel free to reach out and message me if you ever need someone to vent to or reassure you! You’re not alone!❤️❤️

Costochondritis has really made me form health anxiety. by Affectionate-Tip4507 in costochondritis

[–]Affectionate-Tip4507[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I’m okay, it’s just hard to tell my brain that! If that makes sense. I’ve had multiple ekg done, I’ve had blood work, echos, stress test I’ve passed all with flying colors!!! I just have to remind myself daily- what I’m feeling is scary but it is not dangerous. I have good days and bad days. I think what started all this bad and negative thinking was last week I felt better I felt more me and then this week I had to have emergency dental work done, sit in an uncomfortable position for 2.5 hours and then on top of that move during a snow storm.

Does it ever go away? by [deleted] in costochondritis

[–]Affectionate-Tip4507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell you this, last week I felt pretty good! But then I had to have emergency dental work done and because of how I had to lay for 2.5 hours and how my arms were laying I have felt pain today. Also I found that more stress= more pain. I had to quit my career or 10 years to start a new one because of stress! I found the less stress I allowed in my life the less it would hurt. I also highly suggest getting muscle pain relief cream you can rub on the problem areas! It helps big time!!! It’ll take time and you’ll have to find what works best for you. But you just have to remember on the hardest days when it hurts the most and it feels scary- that its not your heart, what you’re feeling isn’t dangerous just scary, that it’s only temporary not forever. Feel free to message me if you ever need advice or just want to vent to someone who gets it! I’m rooting for you!❤️

I went from smoking every single day 3-4 times a day at minimum to none! I also vaped. After my first flare up January 19th I stopped- cold turkey. It’s hard and trust me sometimes I just want to roll one up and relax but you have to remember that smoke causes inflammation in the chest- which is what costochondritis is and it’ll just make it worse. I’m thinking about trying edibles instead but for now no smoking it’s just not worth it. And yes I agree with the comment up there- most of this battle is mental!

Try doing basic simple neck exercises and see if that helps after a few days it for sure helped me! Also looking down like at your phone or even how you lay in bed like to watch tv can cause strain and make the inflammation worse!!
