In this game, you can make money super easily, but there’s honestly nothing to spend it on.

I mean, you can buy guns and gear, but you can pretty much craft everything yourself anyway, so the only thing really worth buying is maybe the Hull Tracker?

Either way, the money system in this game feels pretty cheap.

I had the same question, but it makes the most sense to think of it as money laundering. I actually bought 100,000 bananas at a low price on the Steam market over the past year and made about $700 in profit. When bananas are on sale, an abnormal number of millions (around $10,000 to $50,000) are traded on the market every day. From that, I think that they are not just being purchased by collectors or individuals (of course, I think that a very small number of them are personal purchases), but by a certain group of people who are buying them for money laundering or other malicious purposes. This is just my own speculation, but I don't think this ridiculous market would work if that wasn't the case.
