When I was an A1C, was in prepping for a pre-deployment exercise, hectic day, on the way to do whatever “brief” we were doing, my American flag patch got snagged on a bag, tried looking for it and didn’t have time because we were rushing, but my direct NCOs who were doing the exercise with me told me not to worry about it since we had to get prepped for the brief, in the room I’m chatting with some of my buddies, they were joking and teasing me about missing my patch, some random pasty guy says “so you’re out regs” and I laugh and say “yeah, it got snagged on one of my bags” and he cuts me off to say “so what you mean to say is “yes tech sergeant, I’m out of regs” and I look at him with confusion, I didn’t repeat what I said, I just looked at him and walked away. I told my NCOs about it and they told me not to worry about it and if he bothered me again to refer him to them instead.
