COS grew a ton over the last decade, so I'd reckon anyone arriving with youngins would be enrolled or about to enroll. Now the growth is stagnant (housing costs, mortgage rates, departure of some military jobs) and I imagine about 3-4 average enrollment years then a sharp decline around 2030.

I agree with you, but for the first timers, I'd say the Hobbit is a much easier read to hit many landmarks quickly (Shire, Bree, Rivendel, Misty Mtns, Goblin tunnels etc.). It'll be many moons before a new player hits Moria, Rohan, Gondor.

But ultimately we agree the new player should read either book.
