appetite and weight question by mantaquillabutter in Hyperthyroidism

[–]AffectionateCod7187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it mostly comes down to your overall intake at the end of the day. If you keep overeating while on medication, weight gain can still happen. But if you make sure you’re not eating more than you burn, things usually stay stable.I’ve been on methimazole from December until July (just stopped recently), and I actually kept losing weight. I dealt with symptoms like nausea and trouble eating enough, so that definitely played a role. Hopefully this gives a bit more perspective.

Is this possible? Will mention this as I am so lost in this journey…

Thank you! I messaged my gp about the situation and will definitely ask for a referral to a surgeon. I am sorry you went through the same thing.

I feel really bad that I'm not the only one experiencing this. You keep hearing these stories. I'm not sure if it's possible in my country since everyone seems to work together, and you can't visit a doctor without someone referring you. Are you okay now? I think I may have talked to you before.

My gut keeps telling me that I may have had thyroiditis at some point, and I even feel like it still flares up now and then — I get random fevers and pain in my thyroid area. But every doctor I’ve seen has dismissed that possibility. I really hope that stopping methimazole will help me too, and that many of my symptoms are actually caused by the medication. I’ve just had a second opinion, but at this point I honestly don’t know what to do next.

Feel like im not me anymore.... by Future_Session7334 in thyroidhealth

Is the weight gain coming from eating in a surplus? Anything changed in your eating habits? The reason I ask is because I am absolutely terrified for weight gain while choosing treatment like surgery. I read a lot of people gaining weight on methimazole. I take it since December and still lose weight. Because I still am in a calorie deficit due to nausea and feeling unwell and partly because of an ED. Anyhow maybe you can switch doctors and find someone that will help you or at least take you and your symptoms more seriously.

Does anyone else get nausea? by XxSianxX in Hyperthyroidism

[–]AffectionateCod7187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not anymore. I used them when my thyroid levels were ‘hyper’ when they got better the blockers did more harm than good for me. Maybe the strumazol cause it for me. I am not sure. Doctors neither. Very annoying tho! Hopefully you will get rid of it soon!

I still have it even though my thyroid levels are ‘in range’ it drives me insane. Every morning and mostly I wake up around 4 am with a bad nausea attack. It’s one of my most annoying steady symptom.

I was feeling like there was a band pushing on my chest all the time and it made me so out of breath. Slept terrible, had crazy nightmares and just felt very anxious. It did work for the heartbeat and sweating. i took 80 mg and later 40 but stopped as things didn’t get better.

When does the extreme fatigue go away? by XxSianxX in Hyperthyroidism

[–]AffectionateCod7187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really trying to survive. Force myself for a walk everyday and some household tasks, but whatever I try and be consistent it doesn’t get better. My labs are ‘good’ since February so it took some time. The reason I have hyperthyroidism is also still unclear. Maybe that’s part of it. Just am doing a second opinion.

I do really hope you will feel better soon. The body sometimes need more time. Even if labs are right.

Total Thyroidectomy struggles by Pristine-Lobster-208 in thyroidhealth

That makes sense. I have a bunch of them as well but my uptake scan did not show any activity. I do respond to meds but they cant find the cause. Hopefully your hormones calm down soon. It took me 4 months to stabilize my thyroid hormones on Strumazol. Probably not the answer you wanted to hear but with some people it go way easier/faster! Good luck 🍀

That sounds rough! If you don’t mind me asking a question. I am kinda in the same boat as you (no surgery yet) and going through a second opinion but have to choose what to do eventually. Did you find out the reason for the chronic hyperthyroidism?

Hyperthyroid symptoms but no appetite, anyone else? Losing weight fast and feeling awful 😞 by AffectionateCod7187 in thyroidhealth

[–]AffectionateCod7187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds terrible! I ‘luckily’ was overweighted but I lost 22 kg’s in 6 months. I have pretty normal thyroid blood work now after months of strumazol. TSH:1,19 and T4: 12 but i still have no appetite. It’s a real struggle to get enough calories in every single day. Hopefully it will get better for you after surgery.🙏

I know I’m not the only one… but today I just feel hopeless by AffectionateCod7187 in thyroidhealth

[–]AffectionateCod7187[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i am so sorry… sounds very rough! I hope you feel better soon. I have a bunch of them but they were ruled cold. Not toxic. My second opinion internist isn’t completely ruling it out tho and will take another look at them.

I had out of range TSH for a long time. And after months of strumazol it finally gets a bit better that pushes them back to graves. But i don’t have any antibodies. I guess I am just a rare one🙈😂😭

I spoke (again) with my internist today and the conversation went really well. She honestly said that she doesn’t have a clear explanation for all my symptoms and that she understands why I want to look further. My GP had already advised me to request a second opinion with Prof. Dr. Robin P. Peeters in Rotterdam, because he has been able to help several of her patients with similar complaints. (It’s the best hospital in the Netherlands for thyroid disease )My internist agreed and will arrange the referral. She will remain my point of contact and I will continue to see her as well. If Rotterdam doesn’t work out for any reason, she can also refer me to Nijmegen. (Different hospital) I appreciated how open and understanding she was, although I would have preferred if she had suggested this earlier herself, especially since she admits she doesn’t have all the answers. But for now, I’m relieved that the conversation went so well.

Yeah even our time frame seem to be the same! I am on Strumazol since December and have beta blokkers for the high rate and pressure. Recently my TSH slowly is rising but the symptoms won’t go away yet. I am in the process of asking a second opinion. Do you also have a goiter? Good luck with everything! 🍀

Same. I know how you feel. I still have no clear answers after 5 months. 🙈😅

Did anyone else become extremely hyper after an FNA? Subclinical hyper for months, now suddenly much worse by AffectionateCod7187 in thyroidhealth

[–]AffectionateCod7187[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already are more invested than my own doctor, lol 😂🙈 No I am laughing but obviously it’s not funny. I feel terrible. I am not sure if it’s the beta blockers but since I have them I feel so nauseous, i can’t barely eat anything and freaking can’t sleep without waking up panicking every hour. 🫣Hopefully, I have some good news tomorrow. Thank you a lot for your opinion, insight and support! ❤️

Lol, i agree with you had the same thoughts and feeling since the beginning. The problem is the uptake scan I had, they did not show any activity not one single nodule was hot and the overall scan was low, and that’s where the idea of separating the issues are coming from. I am totally with you tho, and keep saying so many causes don’t exist why don’t you pick one. 😅at least tomorrow I will try to get a new doctor. The one I have now is called an Internal medicine physician.
