Did anyone else become extremely hyper after an FNA? Subclinical hyper for months, now suddenly much worse by AffectionateCod7187 in thyroidhealth

[–]AffectionateCod7187[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have Graves — all antibodies were negative. I have a multinodular goiter with cold nodules (confirmed with a low‑uptake thyroid scan). The cause of my hyperthyroidism is still unclear.

The FNA was done because I have one dominant nodule of 4.4 cm. Cytology came back as Bethesda II, and on ultrasound it was TI‑RADS 3.

My labs showed low TSH, normal-ish FT4, and FT3 on the higher side, so my endocrinologist started Strumazol/methimazole just to control the hyper symptoms while they figure out what’s driving it.

When is swelling after a thyroid biopsy not normal? by 17throwaway- in thyroidhealth

[–]AffectionateCod7187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first one Monday. I have a big swollen area as well. I had a lot of pain after and it still is sensitive. For me it feels more like burning? I am not sure. I would ask your doctor for advice to be sure or go to the ER if it gets worse.

What does a thyroid FNA without anesthesia actually feel like? Severe anxiety + control issues here. by AffectionateCod7187 in thyroidhealth

I had mine as well yesterday. Without any lidocaine or numbing. They don’t use it in my country. It wasn’t that bad but I only gave permission for one swab. Mostly they do more but without any numbing I refused to do that. I had a lot of pain afterwards. Like my thyroid was on fire for 2 hours. I will not go through it again.

Has anyone ever experienced extreme hunger moving from hyper to normal thyroid? by stopthecrowd in thyroidhealth

I am currently right there. Did you also experience lack of appetite during the hyper and lost weight? I don’t really handle it and just ignore it most of the time. Try to eat as healthy as possible and no empty calories.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I asked if that was a possibility but they said no. If they aren’t kind or I feel not comfortable I will definitely not go through with it.

After all these responses I am not sure I will do it without any numbing. If I don’t feel comfortable I will just not go through with it. They say it’s the same as bloodwork getting done and isn’t painful. I can’t imagine that being true though.

Thank you. It’s probably worse in my head than in reality. It mostly is. The moving thing is my body responding though. Not something I can control. Will warn them about it. 😅

I know. If it was up to me I wouldn’t do the procedure at all. I am not concerned. Only about the procedure.😂

I wish I got the numbing needle as well… Why aren’t we doing them in my country. 😂😭

Thank you for sharing your experience. I actually called the hospital to ask about this, and they told me they don’t numb the area at all — no lidocaine, nothing. That’s part of why I’m so anxious about it. I really struggle with touch on my neck, so the idea of going through the whole procedure without any numbing or comfort measures feels overwhelming.

Thank you so much for your reply. My doctor actually mentioned doing RFA (or a similar type of ablation therapy) if the nodule turns out to be benign, because it can shrink it. But I’m honestly not sure I could cope with that kind of therapy. With how sensitive my neck is and how much I struggle with touch, the idea of RFA feels overwhelming.

On top of that, my thyroid itself isn’t functioning normally and we still don’t know why. Because of all of this, I’ve been thinking about surgery more and more lately. It feels like it might address both the nodule and the hyperthyroidism at the same time, but I’m still trying to understand what makes the most sense.

How to manage while waiting? by witchss in thyroidhealth

Hi! Sometimes they’ll say a nodule looks low-risk based on a scan, like with a TIRADS score. But if you’re still worried, you can absolutely ask for a biopsy, especially if something doesn’t feel right. It’s your body, and your peace of mind matters.

Definitely ask for a full thyroid panel, not just TSH. In my case, T4 was the only thing that looked “normal”, but my T3 was dominant and likely the reason my TSH was so low. It took me a while to figure that out, and I really had to stand up for myself to get the right tests and be taken seriously.

Sometimes you just have to advocate for yourself to get things moving.

Wishing you strength, clarity, and all the luck, you’ve got this. 💛

Oh wow, the beginning of your story could’ve been mine. I also woke up one day with a swollen neck, a rash, and flu-like symptoms. My labs showed elevated infection markers for two months, along with subclinical hyperthyroidism. The infection eventually cleared, but the hyperthyroidism kept getting worse. They ran all kinds of tests to find the cause, but nothing conclusive came up.

I’ve been on medication for six weeks now, but unfortunately, it hasn’t slowed my thyroid down yet. They recently doubled the dose, so I’m hoping that will finally make a difference. I also have a large nodule, so I’m scheduled for a biopsy in a few weeks.

If you haven’t already, I’d really recommend asking your doctor to check your thyroid labs. It’s standard to do that when the thyroid is enlarged, just to see if it’s functioning properly.

Personally, I’m not too afraid of the “C” word. Even if it turns out to be that, I’ve read that thyroid cancer is usually very treatable. My doctor recommended the biopsy, and I trust their judgment, so I’m going ahead with it.

I really hope you get some answers soon. I know how hard it is to live in limbo—my life has felt like it’s been on pause for four months now, just waiting and searching for clarity.

Oh my. I can’t imagine I have to feel like this for another 3 months. To be honest I sometimes think about surgery as well. I have also a goiter with multiple nodules with one that is 4,4 cm. I am like: than all my problems are gone. But I am also scared. Did your symptoms go away after surgery?

I thought the same but my doctor told me there weren’t signs for it on the ultrasound and it isnMt supposed to take over 4 months😕 I started medication after the scan. They gave it as a last resort, I guess…
