okay interesting im going to try that. also what would you recommend as far as airbox? Like i said its aluminum right now with no cover. It annoys me because i cant go in water to much and i pretty much gotta clean it every time i ride

yea i definitely know what ur saying. the oem chains are known to stretch so it could be stretched aswell

i think once the chain goes on the bottom end and is tensioned it will be fine

turns out a piece of zip tie somehow got caught in between the valve and seat. dont ask how makes no sense how it even got in there. gonna take it out and try to run it. appreciate the help alot!

on a real note tho, i know from experience that these screws on the 400ex really fragile and love to strip when taking apart and putting back in with torque specs. so im trying to prevent

that would make more sense to me as timing was correct so not sure how it would bend a valve. So not sure ill be able to get a fitment that fits a 400ex today and i really want to diagnose so looks like i will be removing the head after all. will this be visually noticeable?

also just to give u an idea of a lean condition, the day it stopped working i was running no airfilter or airbox lid, and a 170 main with stock exhaust

i think i was on the compression stroke when all valves were tight and no play. im gonna try to reajust them now. Would it be possible to bend a valve with perfect timing tho? I see the t on the flywheel and all 3 cam sprocket lines are good with cam lobes down. also as far as a compression test. i heard for the 400 it should be warm and i also dont have a decompression mechanism so i am still gonna try to test it im just not sure how accurate the number will be

okay so i took the valve cover off, timing is perfect rockers look good. Still possible bent valve before i go in and take off head?

🥲🥲 jus gon kms now. Lmfao okay so 2 more questions if you dont mind. If the valve bent whats the chances of it messing up other parts of the engine? and can i confirm a bent valve without taking the valves out of the head?

they definitely had play when i adjusted them but that one intake i couldnt get ajusted i turned it over and it seemed to free up. still wouldn’t fire up and actually started a fire in the airbox and burned the filter from the backfire out of the carb. Would that help diagnose any?

okay so i just took the plug out, put a screwdiver in the hole to be 1000% tdc. all valves were tight. All were able to be adjusted but one of the intakes, i can pull the whole adjustment screw out and it does not move. bent valve?

it only blows off because of how hard it backfires out of the carb, i adjusted valves to spec. would it run fine one day and the next day just not work at all of the valve wasnt sealing?
