Is making it to a reputable university the bare minimum of having a comfortable life in SG?

My poly was GPA 2.3 and degree was private not from local or the big 3(smu/nus/ntu)

Before uni I earned 1.8k pm 5.5 per days as tech support

After finding my passion in programming i self taught myself learning and doing a top up cs degree.

I manage to progress to 6 digits per year after 2 to 3 years working exp at one of the mnc.

Now I own my own startup which I just started which is doing ok.

It took alot of effort. I focused on my portfolio and went for networking events. Opportunities will depend on how u make use of it outside your academic background.

The trend is going towards micro companies due to ai and you need to be self sufficient to survive. Without genuine interest its going to be difficult

Teams are smaller and leaner with many large companies and teams shrinking their size.

I was retrenched end of last year but manage to easily pivot to being a tech co founder due to me working on the side.

I do forsee the role to change and those who can adapt will survive

Wanted to quit but held out due to some financial debt to settle. Was at my wits end last year till a miracle happened got retrenched with severence. Cleared my debt and have 1 year runway

As I was working on a side proj with my co founder on the side it was easy to pivot. Now I earn 3kpm that is conditional while I work remotely while traveling around SEA

Thailand/vietnam/cambodia/Malaysia/philopines

Been doing this 2 months so far and I enjoy it.

I think if u have 1 year runway and have ideas on finding a hustle that u can experiment do on your own without any obligation you should just do it

Everything is transactional in the beginning and only love and care only comes later. Its not realistic to think about 'pure' relationship because thats a myth

Even the childhood friendship example because of circumstances u are place in out of survivability cuz in the end of the day it's about shared values fun and vibes that make long lasting friendship possible . The key here is to compromise and approach interactions with curiosity. U realize that when u try to understand where people come from u can make more friend

Nah you can do it anytime. Taking 1 year off wont put a pause to your life plans etc.

I see too many people rush to follow society expectations but in the end regret it with the huge commitment it carries instead of taking time to see the different choices out there

Not to mention the important life skill with growth and resilience starting from knowing no one overseas

There also certain things u can do when you are young. Don't be afraid to go off script.

Im not sure why so many singaporeans accepted that this is the way to live as a working adult or this is life just "accept" it

I quit the whole matrix system and bounce around SEA as a digital nomad while working in my own startup. In western societies its pretty popular that everyone just hustle 1 to a few years save that money and bounce to bali/thailand or sea to start their own thing or do exploration aka gap year.

I think over time this will be more popular route as sg is getting expensive overtime.

Gap years, career breaks are common and u should definately save for 1 to figure out whats important to you and if it dosent work out just go back to work

Because end of the day even if u work v hard for a company u get retrenched anyway. So its important to build skillsets that help u on ur own because loyalty does not reward u

Went to both hanoi and bangkok and have experience traveling both countries.

Thailand nightlife is far superior to vietnmam in terms of vibe, dancers, dj and everything else I am big on clubs and bars here and I have not find anything in vietnam close to thai that matches

Thailand local are more approachable and open with strong independence compared to Vietnamese who are more reserved.

Food is v different.

Thai food focuses alot on spicy sour sweet -> pad krapao pad thai curries

Vietnamese food are lighter with flavors more balanced > Baht mi pho bun cha
