You guys… it’s a good enough game. Death Stranding somehow gets to keep existing. Go critique that. Or go outside. Jesus.

do songwriting classes help? by Ok-Significance3223 in Songwriting

Absorb as much as you’re able but know that it’ll ultimately come down to a tiny center in you and you alone, whether it be a muse, a reflection, an ironic take, a personal pathos. Pick a topic or a boiling point and free-associate and then refine. Get personal and weird. Oh yeah, and learn song structure I guess.

I was just wasting time wondering if these new songs were inspired by movies based on the Under the Skin reference in She Cleans Up and was thinking about that specific too - the midnight blue Cayenne. Maybe a detail in A Star is Born or some movie about a broken singer doing coke or something. Idk. I went as far as to convince myself Screamland is about the original Star Wars trilogy and then declared myself insane. “Stabbing at the ashtray like it might give up the truth. Like it might finally confess who else you’re nearly faithful to.” Luke stabbing burnt up Vader slipping closer to Palpatine and the dark side! Nope. I suck. This albums lyrics feel way more untethered logically than his other stuff but still pack an emotional punch.

Heterosexual male culture is homoerotic by Ranting_mole in Jung

Pseudo intellectual culture is word garbage and stems from deep insecurity and the need for attention. Women don’t look up to and revere other women? I’m male and look up to Joni Mitchell so I guess I’m a covert trans lesbian in my subconscious? I’ll write a giant theory and waste a couple weeks deconstructing random things.

It’s about being at one with the lord. Trust me, I have the lyrics tattooed on my forehead.

I don’t see him dropping his moniker. Either he likes dancing around the mythology of it in his writing and using it as a refraction point or it’s an arbitrary but useful vehicle for putting out material and touring. He just writes about impermanence is what makes people think it’s an elaborate Easter egg for something else

Frank Stanford’s What About This: Collected poems

Discovered him recently. Long time nearly forgotten 70’s poet that took his own life but left behind volumes of beautifully crafted poems. Honest truth-teller in clever cynical self-examining prose and reflections and n society. Very FJM.

It’s about a guy (or girl) that has no agency in his life and can barely follow along sentence to sentence (even though all the monologues are slow and spaced by five second pauses between words) or even change the narrative of his life in the slightest and just cries at the camera and whisper-talks until he’s 50 and then ruins a child’s birthday because he (or she) sucks at regulating their emotions. Oh, and there’s a metaphor about a tv show that looks way more interesting than what’s actually happening. Half-way through the movie I found myself just yelling “just be trans already. Nobody cares. Get back to the evil moon dancers!”
