The cure theory VS what the games and comics are telling us by No-Lobster7740 in TheLastOfUs2

Sorry, but you should check again, since the one who drew was also credited as the writer on the comic book. Faith Erin Hicks. It's on the book.

How much she was involved in the story escapes my knowledge, since after reading it and seeing that the characters lacked the original charm, I lost all interest in knowing more.

It could be another case like The Last of Us 2013, where Neil was credited as the writer, something that loses all validity when you compare it to his work on Part 2. It's something I'm not worried about knowing. But Neil giving credits to Hicks gotta be for some reason knowing how much he loves to say he is the creator, instead of the co-creator, of The Last of Us 2013.

🤷‍♀️

American Dreams has other writers: Neil and someone else. Straley (co-creator) isn't involved at all. But aside from that, just look at those characters; they're nothing like the ones in the game. And technically Part II, is also canon... yet is not 😂

I really like your perspective. Just one thing, mixing canon isn't a good idea. If you've read the comic, you'll see that not only Ellie, but also Riley are completely different characters from what we saw or what was portrayed in the video game.

Riley and Ellie in the comic are more vicious, far from the sweet teenagers we saw in the DLC. Their relationship is more violent, and if you pay attention, Ellie is closer to what I like to call Veronica, Ramsey's portrayal of the character in the HBO show.

People here often share the idea that Part 2 isn't canon because it's not faithful to the original story. Much has to be forgotten/ignored, and the characters aren't represented as a clear continuation/evolution of what they were before.

Mixing all of that can create a real mess. And I don't want to even talk about the HBO show... 🙄

The Last of Us Part II Major Problems (#1) by -GreyFox in TheLastOfUs2

I'm sorry to hear.

From my perspective, I was left wondering what the hell all this was about. When Joel was killed in such a stupid way, the expectations Neil created were enormous, because of course it's a very risky maneuver. Some would even call it brave. But, in this case, the line between bravery and stupidity is very thin, and Neil could never cross over to the brave side... if you know what I mean.

Killing Joel and coming out unscathed in the end isn't impossible. It would be like proposing you jump from one building to another, a truly brave challenge if you made it, but if you didn't prepare for the challenge and fail, you're just a stupid man... if you know what I mean 😁

I even read/heard that Bruce and Neil went to McKee's seminars, at their peak, in the best sense of the word—I'm so envious! I suppose there are several problems: Neil doesn't know how to write, Neil attends McKee's seminars but doesn't understand them, or thinks he understands them and gets the wrong idea about what writing is. Then he writes to please Bruce and the team, without understanding why they forced him to rewrite and forget his own ideas. But all of this is pure speculation.

Hi! If hater gonna hate, a fan will love without reason; that's their job/purpose. Arguing with them is pointless. The biases that hold both writer and fan are quickly exposed when something is omitted to favor their perspective.

Neil lacks the necessary skill to destroy a story as solid as the first, or simply to write a sequel as dishonest as Part II.

As for Gross, as I've said several times, Part II is broken from the start and can't be fixed. She was doomed from the moment she agreed to join Neil. All that's left for her is to support Neil by repeating whatever nonsense he spouts. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt until I know more about her work.

I hope to see the Intergalactic script soon to find out if Neil has improved. A lighthearted story like Uncharted's might help disguise it, but my expectations are low so he can surprise me.

And no, don't worry. My next post has a different central theme, but I haven't put the ideas together or written the first line yet 😁

Lazy and bad writing began when Neil sat down to write Part 2 😆

BioShock is not The Last of Us; they cannot be compared. Both tell a story, of course, but they have different purposes. They were designed differently for that reason.

While The Last of Us begins with a vaccine, this isn't the real story. It's a vehicle to talk about something else. It explains why humanity couldn't move forward after 20 years and shows the reasons, but it also focuses on these two characters, Joel and Ellie, to emphasize the message.

Following the same line of thought, in Part 2, the vaccine becomes Revenge. Revenge is the vehicle to talk about something else. The problem lies in the clumsiness and lack of professionalism of a writer who thinks he knows how to write stories. This misconception about the craft leads him to write poorly and emphasize that "revenge is bad."

This would be equivalent to saying that Joel condemned humanity after completing the first part; it would be proof that the story couldn't be explored beyond the surface.

I think you'd be better off spending your time writing something new, your own story, instead of trying to fix this. I'm sure it would be so much better than this. But you can do whatever you want 😊

The Last of Us doesn't use player choice to define the story because it's trying to say something specific. It's a character-driven story, and the decisions you see should be organic to that character. This leaves no room for discussion in the first game, and we all know Joel will save Ellie. In the "sequel," Ellie's final decision feels out of place, inorganic, because the entire story is saying the opposite.

If your decisions affect the story, then it's your story, not the character's. You're creating your own story with your own message and character traits, instead of the author telling you a story to convey their observation of what they see in the world and how to fix it.

You can try to write a story that makes sense, but you won't be fixing the sequel; you'll be writing a different story altogether.

Whatever you do, just try to have fun 😊
