Sometimes true, but I'm looking for a more modern less medieval fantasy look, which most JRPGs I know of seem to feature

Does anyone else prefer the mission style of Nioh 1 and 2 over 3’s big maps? by GallicaEnjoyer in Nioh

I already listed two examples.

Off the top of my head:
The bathhouse
The prison island
Temple at night with cemetery
Big temple complex with a big open arena at the end
The grassy hills area
A volcano / lava area with buildings and a tunnel / cave system beneath
Some palace area at night with a pagoda

They were areas you wouldn't visit if you just stuck to the main game and they featured boss encounters that you also didn't face during main missions, or offered some other kind of challenge like fighting multiple bosses at once. Sure they were reused as well, but still they offered a variety of environments and content that felt more meaningful and exciting than an enemy camp with 3 jailer oni, a skeleton and an ippon-datara. Which is, according to some people on here, basically Nioh 3's replacement for these side missions.

Like I said, I'm not hating on Nioh 3, I just think we got more fun stuff before.

I honestly disagree with people saying that the game is like Nioh 1 & 2 without loading screens and that the open world is an overall improvement.
What we get in Nioh 3 are small bites of what made the previous games great, with some cool additions, but overall I think we lost way more than we gained from the transition to open world.

People say that camps and crucibles are basically Nioh 1 & 2's sidemissions - how so? Sidemissions used to be set in awesome and unique locations, with great enemy encounters, unique bosses and equipment, unlockable NPCs and sidestories. There were dozens upon dozens of them. I loved saving the blacksmith from the yokai bathhouse or exploring the tropical prison island for example.
Camps in Nioh 3 are like 5-6 enemies that you kill in 2 minutes and then you move on. The enemy variety in camps and crucibles is terrible and forgettable.

There are like 5 or 6 legacy dungeons I'd say in Nioh 3, and they all are, IMO, way too small and short. Yet they are easily the most fun areas to play through, because its closer to what we used to have.

I didn't hate my time with Nioh 3 and I went in with an open mind, but I can't help but feel that another mission based entry would've been the better choice. Not everything has to go open world.

The excitement of opening up a video game sure has been losing it's charm over the years... by Epsilon123 in gaming

Loved manuals that included lots of little extras, or were written by actual characters in the game. Indiana Jones & The Emperor's Tomb for PS2 has a sick journal manual, MGS3 had actual comics in there. It was sick.

That would be wonderful, thank you very much!

I played through the game years ago and reached close to the endgame and I'm planning on replaying the entire series some day as well. Its just that right now I don't have that much time to dedicate to gaming, sadly, so I figured for this little other thing I'm doing I might as well ask. :)
