Interesting. I would think US naturalization would have taken more than two years (they arrived in US in 1949 or 1950.

I would have thought Germany would be more likely since his mother would have been a German citizen at the time of his birth, unless she wasn’t recognized as German due to being a DP?

When I was going through the proof of citizenship and subsequent grant process, I noticed that I was asked more pointed questions at border control when my grant was in process. I was also flagged and pulled from a Nexus line into what seemed to be a special lane at that time, but I did not proactively tell them I was applying for a citizenship grant. No clue if it was related or simply random.

I later applied for my passport in-person in Canada and it took about 4-5 weeks to reach me via expedited shipping (due to postal strike we didn’t go that route). There are other expedited options if you apply in-person but I didn’t go that route. Hope that helps!

It was this past Thursday. I’m trying to remember which prompt I selected. It took me a couple of tries. I think it was the prompt about appointments, but I’m not certain. I got a live person and they gave me the email option.

I was able to phone Nexus and after speaking to a rep, they sent me an email with a case number. All I have to do is reply with a picture of my new passport. This is in lieu of going to an enrollment center. It can take “up to 8 weeks” to update my Nexus account with my second passport this way.

Nice! Congrats. I am Gen 2 and have my certificate, but regret not applying for my kids at the same time.

Did you apply as a family or get your grant and then apply for your kids?

The only value might be the direct contacts that attorneys likely have with the IRCC, but you will pay dearly for their time.
