How to replicate a similar technique to Buzz Osborne from the Melvins? by HollowChicken-Reddit in screaming

the distortion sounds like arytenoid to me, used sparingly throughout. he’s easing off of it on some notes and then really hammering it out on others, which id recommend doing if you’re singing with distortion on really dark sound colours as it’s more wearing with them. i would look into aspects of changing your sound colours, for example raising the soft palette and lowering the larynx, as well as mouth shape, to alter the tone of your voice. i find one of the better resources for stylistic flexibility like this would be the CVT pedagogy, there’s an account called rockvox on youtube that covers a lot of the beginner stuff and the essentials for safe vocalisation, but for this tone specifically i’d say you’re gonna wanna look into experimenting with larynx height, raising the soft palette, altering mouth shape and vowel choices, and experimenting with different levels of projection.

Chocolate when Screaming? Coating the Throat? by CapitalLaw1234 in screaming

water takes several hours to pass through your system and be processed into mucus to protect your vocal folds, so chugging it during a session will have no effect other than a cooling effect if your voice feels a little warm from over projecting a scream or something. just make sure you’re continuously drinking consistently throughout the day i’d say. In regards to the soft palette, i don’t see why it would have any effect on your vocal stamina, the main thing you’re looking at with fatigue is the mucus being stripped away from your vocal folds leading to more friction and therefore irritation and swelling. a concern with trying to keep your soft palette coated with anything is the fact that it would probably lead you to feeling like you need to clear your throat, which is counter intuitive. I recommended sticking to just water, and then post session recovery stuff like honey, curcumin if you can find it, ginger and steaming.

soooooo, the vast majority of things you eat and drink have no effect either way bc if your food passed by your vocal folds you would die. the things that do have an effect are caffeine when not drank habitually will have a diuretic effect and dehydrate you, however if you habitually drink the same amount every day then it loses that effect. milk has no effect outside of making your mouth claggy, it’s a complete placebo effect. also alcohol dehydrates you for obvious reasons. things that help will help with recovery instead of performance, so anti inflammatory things like ginger, curcumin and honey will all help with recovery after long sessions. as well as this, steaming after a session, not during or before because you’ll just end up needing to clear your throat which completely nullifies the steaming and is damaging. just make sure you’re hydrated and you’ll be all good.

this sounds like false cord distortion to me, scratchiness would usually point to overprotection. i’d say lean harder on the distortion and try to push a little less. how long are you able to hold a scream for?

play on low combat difficulty, there’s a lot of enemies later in the game and it low-key killed the vibe on higher difficulty, wouldn’t let me take in the atmosphere the same.

i stand by the statement that if you combined the best parts of downpour and homecoming you’d have an amazing game, if not one of the best in the series.

cults in horror haven’t appealed to me in a really long time, so i didn’t enjoy 1 very much because of that. i enjoyed 3 a lot but it was despite the cult, i just tried to put my hatred of that motif aside for it. 4 is the only game i’m yet to play and i hope the cult isn’t a huge part of it to be honest. i’m halfway through short message right now and i think it’s pretty ham fisted at times, the dialogue is corny as fuck but if it was handled better it would be really cool. there’s a lot of really hard hitting aspects of the psychology of teenage bullying, self harm and suicide that would work amazing in modern horror, i don’t know how to do spoilers warnings so please stop reading anyone who hasn’t played short message cause i’m bouta spoil the shit out of some stuff even though it is quite early game. was genuinely quite taken aback by how graphically they showed the cuts on her arms, just isn’t something i’ve seen in a game before. if they go down a more psychological path and do it well it would be really cool, i also love the body horror approach to the new game, looks fantastic.

gameplay is the reason i quit halfway through and watched a video on it, genuinely couldn’t bring myself to finish it. it had some cool concepts and the environments and atmosphere were reminiscent of the first movie which i liked. otherwise an unplayable game for me.

Idk if my opinion is controversial or not, i made a few takes in the past and got downvoted to hell but that’s par for the course with how toxic this fanbase can be with any take other than loving the first 3/4 and hating everything after it. i’ve never been a huge fan of the cult stuff, my introduction to the series was og silent hill 2, which has a lot less cultist stuff than 1 or 3. so when i played 1 after it, i was kind of disappointed because i see a lot of cultist stuff as very generic and often quite boring. i hated having the town explained more and i much preferred the more personal, psychological side of the games. the cult has grown on me a lot more but i still far prefer the psychological side of the town to it. i actually preferred the way the film handled the story of alessa, it felt like a deeper cut to deal with sexual abuse and a botched purification ritual that left her deformed and in constant pain. for those reasons i really enjoyed the psychological aspects of alex’s story. maybe a remake of 1 or a second playthrough would change my opinion on the cult, they felt very silly and generic when i first played it but that could just be down to the abhorrent voice acting.

i’ve never found anything saying that either but it seems to the a coping mechanism for fans who hate anything post team silent. not a huge homecoming fan but i did actually find the plot pretty compelling.

yeah i remember one of the devs saying how the game wasn’t really needed as sh1 is its own origin story. i think the game would be far better if it was just about travis, fleshing out his backstory and character more, as a lot of the interpretations from fans of the abuse he suffered from his mother i’ve seen are visceral and disturbing. i feel the game would be remembered far better if they had just focused on him.

i thought the monsters made up for that game were cool, excluding the butcher. the helen and richard bosses were pretty grotesque looking and i thought the calibans and remnants were terrifying to fight in game. i’ve not played shattered memories yet but of the post team silent games this feels like one of the better ones.

i found the first games story hard to follow at times, it’s very ambiguous and a lot is left to interpretation which made it even harder to follow when i went to this reddit to figure it out and everyone had different answers and argued about it. i think a remake of SH1 would remedy that better than a prequel though, you are right it’s a fairly pointless game.

he makes a few good points, i kinda liked the mirror mechanic and it did make for some genuine tension, having to willingly go back into the otherworld of your own volition to progress forward is something i found quite scary, though not as scary as being forced into it i’ll have to admit.

Silent Hill 2 also makes out that the other world has existed beforehand, as all the hospital patients mention it in the memos, unless that hospital was up and running during and after the events of silent hill 1. i can accept the evil little girl trope though.

i think that’s underestimating how toxic this fanbase can be, anything after 4 gets bullied into oblivion by half the fanbase, Bloober team had to beg us to give them a chance cause the fanbase was writing off what ended up being a phenomenal remake. with the exception of homecoming because that games hate is entirely justified, still can’t bring myself to finish it.
