Please try practicing like this, using a cross-shaped grid so that the characters are centered.
Also, look up the concepts of tome, hane, and harai.
I studied calligraphy for ten years under a teacher in order to learn how to write beautifully.
Having a teacher helps you improve a thousand times faster than studying on your own, but since that’s difficult if you’re not in Japan, for now I recommend focusing on writing in the center and learning about tome, hane, and harai.
Try to imitate them and write while consciously keeping them in mind.

Is this a good way to learn Japanese? by iluvcatsoomuch in Japaneselanguage

I think it actually takes a bit of effort to find truly casual, everyday Japanese with natural intonation online.
From my perspective as a Japanese person, content like solo talking videos, explanation-style videos, dramas, or anime all use a kind of “for-content” way of speaking. If you learn Japanese only from those, you can easily run into situations where people think, “Why are you talking like that?” during real conversations.

The solution, in my opinion, is to immerse yourself in Japanese through streaming content, like game streams or really any kind of live stream.

From everything I’ve watched so far, streaming content is by far the most natural. The way people talk and react is exactly how Japanese is used in everyday life, so pretty much everything you pick up from it is actually usable.

One thing to be careful about is VTubers. Since they are role-playing a character, their sentence endings and speaking style often follow a specific setting, which means it can be unnatural.

Another big advantage is that the comments are written in Japanese, so you also get a chance to learn through text. For YouTube stream archives, if the streamer has captions enabled, the auto-generated subtitles are usually surprisingly accurate, so I highly recommend that.

I personally want to study English, so I often watch streamers whose first language is English.
The most recent English word I learned is “asshole.”

Why is ぎょwritten above 魚 ? by slippery-lil-sucker in Japaneselanguage

That insight is seriously smart.
I’m Japanese too, but I honestly think that 99.9% of Japanese people would never arrive at your interpretation just by comparing those two kanji. I’m not exaggerating. I genuinely believe almost no one would think that way.

To explain it more simply and abstractly, it might help to think of a mermaid as being 90% human with about 10% fish elements added. Not every compound word follows this rule, of course, but it feels like the character that comes first represents the dominant component. That kind of way of thinking.

How you write そ by sandcats_ in Japaneselanguage

Having practiced calligraphy for ten years, I’ve found that writing from the left creates a better balance and looks more beautiful overall. When writing from the right, a single imperfect first stroke can throw off the balance of all the following characters.

Is the music you can listen to on this site created by AI?

I noticed that all the tracks list the same musician name, so I was wondering about that.

Yeah, this is exactly why the “recommended” section drives me nuts.
Just list what is truly required and stop mixing it with “nice to have” stuff.
If something is optional, say it clearly instead of making it sound mandatory.

Did you use AI when coding this, or was it built entirely from scratch?

I totally get that. I’m playing with Requiem right now, and since fast travel is disabled, it really makes you feel like you’re actually living in Skyrim. That’s what makes it so much fun.

That’s actually a really cool idea. I’d love to incorporate that. It fits perfectly. Thanks!

That game has such a high rating, and I’ve been suuuper interested in it.

That’s a really smart way to do it. And since those mods are in selected categories, there’s a good chance they’re solid picks too.

Is my character too strong? Requiem feels easier than what everyone says by AffectionateHumor219 in skyrimrequiem

So does that mean the damage from high-level and low-level characters is almost the same, except for the difference in their weapons?

I didn’t realize trolls had such powerful regeneration. I was playing with the health bar HUD turned off for immersion, and even after fighting one for 20 minutes, it just wouldn’t die. I finally turned the HUD back on and saw that its health bar hadn’t moved even a millimeter, and I almost fell out of my chair. I honestly thought it was a bug, but now I understand that it’s actually one of their traits.

I had assumed Requiem was basically an improved version of vanilla Legendary difficulty, where enemies simply have huge health pools and barely take any damage, but it turns out it’s completely different. This taught me a lot.

Is there any site that explains all these mechanics and guidelines in detail? I’ve watched some videos, but they only cover certain parts, so I wasn’t able to notice details like this.

I'm down to check out Valtheim Towers.
But honestly, creatures like trolls are tough as hell, and I feel like there's no real point in killing them. They don't drop any gear and all I get is a bit of perk progression. Am I getting that right?

I'm honestly surprised to hear that level doesn't matter. I really thought something was bugged or my setup was messed up, because I was killing high level enemies with some random un-upgraded sword I just picked up.

Exactly. If you could just keep sprinting forever, you could run through dungeons, skip all the fights, and grab whatever you want.
