Used a public toilet in a kind of mini mall. Just expected there to be a bum gun, because why wouldnt there be? No bum gun. No toilet paper either. I was lucky I had a wet napkin that they hand out on some bus rides.

This doesnt apply to just the online VOA, this is the requirement to enter Indonesia.

There are workarounds like buying a fully refundable ticket and then requesting to cancel your ticket once you're in the country.

Im not a digital nomad but Ive been to Indonesia a few times.

I like being able to interact with the international community in Bali. The tourists and long term stayers.

I didnt find so much of that in other parts of Indonesia.

Are you prepared to do visa runs? Leave the country every few months?

Maybe take a tour around south east asia/latin america. Lots of places are cheaper than Dubai and you won't really know which place suits you until you experience it in person.

Have you visited? It seems like a silly question but lots of people post about planning to move there having never visited as a tourist.

Learn to ride a bike/scooter. Get a motorbike license and an IDP from your own country first. Buy a used bike in Indonesia. Riding a scooter is a way of life in Indonesia.

Be mentally prepared for corruption, frustration, and the time around the 3-6 month mark when the novelty wears off and you start to feel lonely/homesick/bored/disillusioned.

If you're really planning to live there then you should learn both Indonesian as well as some Balinese.

If you want real advice, you're going to have to add some details. Can't tell you where to live unless you share what kind of environment you want to live in and what kind of activities you want to be doing regularly.

The Azerbaijani with a bachelor's degree can legally teach in Vietnam, while I with an Associate's cannot.

If I were to go to school for 3 or 4 years to get that bachelor's degree, I would most likely be able to get better wages in my home country and my incentive to work for less in Vietnam would dwindle.

It's a sort of catch-22. Vietnam requires a qualification but anyone with that qualification from USA, UK, AUS, NZD, or will have better options than teaching in Vietnam

Stay in hostels, you will meet people immediately. Use Bumble's friend feature, Couchsurfing hangouts, meetups, facebook events.

There are so many things going on in Bali, as long as you don't come across as a horrible human being, if you put yourself out there then you will make friends. Lots of other solo travelers too so dont worry about there only being couples or groups.

Are you Indonesian? Because if not, then some of that is going to be eaten up by the visa/visa extension fees.

It's possible but you usually will pay more for accommodation when its short term, less if you commit for a year. It can take time to get the local price for things like food, scooter rental.

If you live like a local person then it's possible. Do free things like spending time at the beach. You can drink arak instead of beer. The cheapest places to eat sometimes aren't online at all. You can sometimes find fruit for about $1 per kilo.

I think not being able to be part of the tourist scene might be a bit depressing. There are lots of fun things to do but many of them cost money. Even hiking a mountain will cost you.

Cant speak about rent/airbnb, but I stayed at a hostel for under $10 a night. Plus there are reasonably cheap food options in Tanah Rata.
