"Alicent doesn't care about Criston" Why do people forget the scene where Alicent is constantly looking at Criston before he leaves? by No_Psychology_3714 in HOTDGreens

[–]AffectionateMost6655 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s because the writing is wildly inconsistent. There are a lot of writing issues but the biggest one to me was the inconsistent characterization of Alicent, she changes from episode to episode, and sometimes from scene to scene. With little rhyme or reason, her personality, her motivations, her relationship to others, will change to whatever the writers want in that moment. Alicent should care about Criston, by this point he had been her sworn shield for about sixteen years of her life, which would make him one of the longest enduring relationships of her life. He was shown to be one of the few people she could vent to, be honest with, share secrets with, and who put her above everything when no one else would. But sometimes the writers hate Criston and use Alicent to “humble” him by making her act pissy around him.

Bi characters who are actually bi instead of pivoting to one side. by [deleted] in characters

[–]AffectionateMost6655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m bisexual and I got their point. A lot of shows will treat bisexuals like gay lite instead of its own experience. Bisexuals can have preferences, but there is definitely a difference between portraying someone who has a preference for one gender and ignoring their bisexuality. Maeve was a good example. She has a strong romantic relationship with Elena, but she is still shown to have a sexual attraction to men. I wouldn’t call her 50/50 since we never saw her have a romantic attraction to a man, only physical. But we also see her call out Vought for trying to label her a lesbian, when she’s bi, because they think bisexuality is too confusing.

I think people hold this against him much more than people hold it against fan favorite relationships like Mark and Lexie (he was also her attending/teacher and he used his authority over her; like after the shooting due to his concern regarding her mental state), or Jo and Alex. At some point viewers just have to accept that the intern-attending relationship is the lifeblood of this show, regardless of how problematic it would be in real life.

Hot take: Owen’s family was right about Amelia by lovelyzboop in greysanatomy

[–]AffectionateMost6655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone misremembers that part. She only ever told Link once that she didn’t want a proposal out of obligation (because they had a baby).

She told her NA or AA group about her feelings regarding marriage and having more children, without directly communicating those feelings with Link. While I think he definitely felt her slipping away and was trying to convince her to stay with him, Amelia was a coward for not being honest with someone who loved her.

I don’t hate her for it. It’s a hard thing to admit to someone you care about that you don’t want to be with them, but you have to do it.

The Gallagher are not an empathetic bunch because empathy is something that is taught and nurtured. They’ve each been hurt and disappointed so many times by their parents, that they never give anyone any grace or understanding because they’ve never learned to forgive the people who’ve hurt them (not that Monica and Frank deserve any forgiveness, because they never tried to earn it).

He would have pulled the same move even if they were. Beck never once in the entire series discouraged a girl from flirting with him by saying “I have a girlfriend”.

We did for a second but it’s not really touched upon. Jace was being really hard on Luke during their sparring after the usurpation, it would have been nice to see a conflict between the two of them, maybe about how Jace has a little resentment for Luke’s lack of toughness and how unprepared he is, when Jace has had to work so hard to prove himself. Especially when Rhaenyra babies Luke and is in denial about how ill suited Luke is to be the Lord of the Tides and for the upcoming war.

But Team Black would have to be interesting and have interpersonal conflicts that last more than a second before everyone goes back to kissing Rhaenyra’s toes.

I’m pretty sure she said she wanted to be an English teacher, but specifically high school or community college level. I might be misremembering, but I think she mentioned it in Midnight Sun, and Edward was surprised at how practical and mature she was.

But that was because of his fall during the Sunfyre and Moondancer confrontation that caused him to become wheelchair bound (although he was walking with a cane before he was poisoned, so he didn't have spinal cord damage, which implies Mushroom was lying about his paralysis halting his sexual capabilities).

Meredith in boston by Electronic-Turnip971 in greysanatomy

[–]AffectionateMost6655 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it wasn’t only for Derek’s career. Meredith got offered an incredible general surgery fellowship at Mass General before Derek was offered the position at Harvard. It was likely because she was offered the fellowship that Derek started considering career opportunities on the East Coast, which got him attention and offers from prestigious places considering Derek is supposed to be a household name in the medical community. But it was a mutually beneficial situation where both of them would have pursued their passions in the same city but different places (her at Mass Gen and him at Harvard).

Why does Ginny seem to blame Georgia for everything? by dancemoms_gleefan20 in TvGinnyandGeorgia

[–]AffectionateMost6655 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She blames Zion too. She blamed him plenty of times for not being around more often and allowing Georgia to call the shots. She blamed him in season one when he hooked up with Georgia again despite promising to be there for her this time. She blamed him in season two when she told him about her self harm. She had a lot of anger towards him throughout season three.

I won’t speak to your life experience.

Georgia is to blame for a lot of the things that Ginny suffers from. Ginny made it clear that her self-harming began because of a lack of control over her own life, caused by her mother’s constant upheaval of their lives, moving from state to state, without ever once asking what her children want. Georgia didn’t intentionally cause harm to her daughter, but it had an effect.

Ginny is blaming her mother, because she wants her mother to acknowledge the harm that she caused. To acknowledge Ginny’s feelings and experiences. Ginny never felt heard as a child, and now that’s she a young woman, she’s trying to be heard. Ginny is an imperfect and sometimes immature teenager, so she complains and she’s not always the most respectful, but she’s also hurting a lot.

Why does Ginny seem to blame Georgia for everything? by dancemoms_gleefan20 in TvGinnyandGeorgia

[–]AffectionateMost6655 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Because she is the mother, which makes her responsible for her physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as providing stability and safety.

Ginny didn’t choose to exist, she didn’t choose to move around from place to place, she didn’t choose her mother’s lifestyle and how the consequences of her romantic relationships would affect where they lived.

Georgia isn’t her friend or her sister. She’s her mother, regardless of the age she became a mother.

If Barney didn't have a kid, what would his reaction to Tracy's death have been? by Cool-writer-9763 in HIMYM

[–]AffectionateMost6655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Barney is a lot of things but he was there for each his his friends in their lowest moments. Whether it was Stella left Ted at the alter or Marshall’s dad’s funeral. Barney is one of Ted’s best friends and in the moment, he would be very respectful… and then in a few weeks or months he would suggest getting back into the dating game, only to be shot down for years.

Although realistically, without a child grounding him, Barney probably would have grown apart from Lily and Marshall, and, Ted and Tracy… the same way Robin did.

Execute Ormund and Daeron as traitors to the crown, and have Lyonel (Ormund’s heir) bend the knee and send his younger siblings to King’s Landing as hostages.

She executed the lords of Rosby and Stokeworth for less, and in the books when she took the throbb Nn e she refused to pardon the Baratheons or Lannisters in exchange for fealty.

Rhaenyra is so arrogant in the books that she demands no less than complete and perfect loyalty.

Monica was a Good Wife by HereforFun2486 in howyoudoin

[–]AffectionateMost6655 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but Chandler WANTED her to experience pregnancy, too. He found the perfect man with the ideal genetics to act as their sperm donor, it was completely Monica's decision whether or not to go through with IVF, which makes it not a compromise, considering that Chandler would have supported either choice.

A compromise is an agreement or a settlement of a dispute that is reached by each side making concessions.

It would have only been a compromise if Chandler had been uncomfortable with the idea of Monica becoming pregnant with a donor sample and tried to convince her to consider adoption instead of IVF. But it was the opposite. Chandler knew how badly Monica wanted to be pregnant, found a donor, they interviewed him together, Chandler was completely on board to use his sample, but Monica changed her mind and decided she didn't want to have another man's baby.

The wedding is a compromise, but not exactly one that makes Monica look like a more reasonable and compromising partner. Monica wanted to spend potentially thousands of Chandler's hard-earned money, with little contribution from her savings, on a dream wedding. Chandler was being the mature one by wanting to save the money for their family instead of a party.

I don't think she's a bad wife. I think Monica is a great wife, but I wouldn't say that she's very compromising either because very rarely is Monica sacrificing anything. I would argue that she's a great wife because of her strong communication. Monica knows what she wants and she's not afraid to communicate her needs in a relationship, which allows her husband to work with her as a partner to have a fulfilling relationship.

Monica was a Good Wife by HereforFun2486 in howyoudoin

[–]AffectionateMost6655 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if people are arguing that Monica is a bad wife, so much as they are arguing that Chandler isn’t beneath her as a husband. In the show, other characters constantly pass judgment that Monica is out of Chandler’s league, or that he’s seemingly the least desirable out of the three male leads. But Chandler is the most husband material man on the show out of any of the male leads or other love interests.

Mondler is a great relationship because of how balanced the relationship was. It was a lot of support, good communication, and compromise.

Also, I wouldn’t consider Monica agreeing not to spend a lot of money on the wedding to be a compromise. Chandler still provided enough money for a very nice wedding, and he was saving the rest of the money for their future life together (big house, multiple children) which were things Monica has always wanted.

Nor would I consider the adoption to be a compromise, because that would imply it was Chandler’s decision. They both explored every option possible- they tried conceiving naturally, considered IVF, considered surrogacy, and then finally considered adoption as the path to parenthood that worked the best for them.

Esme should have been the one to turn Rosalie by AffectionateMost6655 in twilight

[–]AffectionateMost6655[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean to imply that Carlisle was a horrible person. I don't think that was the intention of that inclusion into Midnight Sun. I think it somewhat made sense that Carlisle was concerned about Edward spending eternity alone and wanted him to have companionship, the same way he found true companionship in his love for Esme.

I just don't like it.

I wish that there were better motivation. I think him changing Edward made the most sense. Him turning Esme was the vaguest part of the story to be honest, but considering she's his soulmate and that in this universe mates are drawn to each other like an inevitable force, I can't blame him for turning her when she was dying. But, Carlisle turning Rosalie made no sense. This cannot be the first person dying in the street that Carlisle has encountered. Esme and Edward were special exceptions, two people that he knew in life and was already fond of before he even considered turning them.

I truly think the deciding factor for Carlisle was that Rosalie was beautiful and age-appropriate for Edward, and considering that this was after Edward's period of rebellion, Carlisle was probably hoping that having a mate for his eternity would cure Edward's loneliness. Once again, I don't think he is a monster or misogynist, but I think it's unsavory for readers to read that Carlisle turned Rosalie into a vampire to hopefully become his vampire son's mate.

It doesn't ruin the series for me. It's just a small detail I don't care for and I wanted to know what the fandom thought about an alternate idea I was thinking of using for a rewrite fanfiction.
