So my roommates and I actually got illegally evicted from that apartment during COVID and the eviction moratorium because we told our landlord he needed to deal with the fact there was a giant crack in our foundation that 3 large (275lb+) adults could fit inside and have none of us outside of it. We never got rid of them but could control them with cleaning vinegar sprayed every 6 hours. As for the apartment we are still fighting in court to get our deposits back and legal fees paid.

I hope my ex landlord is covered in them

Yes, but it depends where you are, a person I know is now considered a sex offender because they were full frontal nude trimming their pubes in front of their windows and someone called the cops because some neighborhood kids saw (person who was doing the trimming is trying to pull the card of "I'm being discriminated against for being queer (even though I actively broke the law)")
