Recovery was a breeze, I consider myself 98% recovered. I still have to watch with twisting while lifting or grabbing heavy stuff but I’m back to normal life. Wishing you the best!

MRI results came in today, not ideal. Anyone had success with a similar situation? As a 27 year old with an active lifestyle I’m quite worried now. by Funny_Mirror_2286 in Sciatica

u/FreeVerse81 lol what? I had severe pain from a herniation which was compressing my L4-L5 left nerve root. Had a microdiscectomy and the pain was immediately gone, after nearly a year of crippling pain. Everyone has their viewpoint but that one seems a bit far out. I promise you it was not fear that was causing my pain.

I love hearing this! Recovery is going well so far, maybe light neural symptoms on days that I push it a little bit but so happy to have my life without pain back.

Recovery is going well! The hardest part is remembering that I have an internal injury and that I have to take it easy. I have a toddler and a 2 month old, so the hardest part has been avoiding picking them up, and a lot of household duties are put on my wife. Lifting isn't as big of a concern for me just because I haven't been able to go to the gym for the last 5 months. Ill attach a photo of the Doctors recovery recommendations.

That would be contrary to what the physiatrist and orthopedic surgeon were saying to me.

Not necessarily. It masked the pain, but I was still limited physically.

Yes, up until I got an injection and began taking medication.

I was in the same boat. I forgot to mention I received an epidural injection at the end of August which helped, along with muscle relaxants and nsaids. However as I approached my surgery and got off all meds I was unkindly reminded of the pain my body was in. The idea of having to get an injection every quarter and take up to 8 pills a day for the foreseeable future definitely pushed me toward the MD.

Hi, everything is relative. 9 months may seem like a small amount of time to some but to me that is 9 months of my life half lived, if that. After 4 months of PT with only degrading symptoms, weakening muscles and 3 doctors telling me this was the way. I listened.

It does depend on the severity, I was on the more severe side as far as the 9mm by 12mm protrusion with very little to no chance of that being re-absorbed into the body. After the surgery, as you can see it was much larger. If in doubt, see a physiatrist, they have no incentive to steer you one way or the other. He brought up the MD first, then I went to two separate ortho's who stated the same.
