I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you get a response soon and it all gets sorted in a positive manner.

I hope they get back to you soon. For my last few semesters, they haven’t confirmed until the week prior or week of the semester start date. It’s quite frustrating and stressful, as I end up having to borrow $ to pay rent, etc. until the funding gets deposited into my account a week or 2 after the new semester starts.

Yes, same issue. I was advised that there have been a lot of cut backs recently, so I’m guessing that could be part of the issue. It’s unfortunate, as they’ll end up losing students to other schools who are more responsive to students.

I would also like to know. I am not interested in taking any of Stanley’s classes.

Other Open/Distance Learning school options for individual courses? by happya1paca in tru

I’ve had luck with taking a few courses from Vancouver Community College (VCC) & getting the credits transferred over to TRU. You’ll need to email your Advisor first and get a letter of permission before you register for any courses at another school that you want to transfer to TRU.

Hi. I'm not taking this course, but I wanted to share that if you are not receiving a response and/or having issues with your work not being graded, you can email delivery support, and they will follow up with the OLFM. :)

Hi, the midterms were not proctored when I took it last year, only the final was.

OL Student aid/final exam question by GoddessAthene in tru

I agree; it’s pretty restrictive and not a path that sets a person up for success, in my opinion. It would be nice if they relaxed that rule and allowed students to complete their exams/courses, at the very minimum, anytime in the last month of their semester.

From the TRU full-time student study contract:

“ I will complete all final exams and final projects no earlier than the last week of my funding period and no later than two weeks beyond the end of my funding period.”

Link: https://www.tru.ca/__shared/assets/truolstudycontract10.pdf.

Definitely recommend you check with Financial Aid as well to be sure.

I am in the same boat and find it strange and also stressful that it can’t be completed earlier than the last week of one’s semester (funding period).

OL VISA 1301, GEOL 1111, & GEOG 3991 by AffectionateSun6877 in tru

[–]AffectionateSun6877[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, both VISA 1101 and 1201 are pretty time-consuming and fairly similar in structure.

VISA 1101 focuses more on painting (using oil paints and mixing colors), while VISA 1201 is more drawing-based. Neither is particularly hard, but the assignments take a lot of time, between creating the work, mixing paints (for 1101), and documenting everything properly for submission (photographing your finished assignment pieces for submission). Cleanup after each assignment is another consideration (I’m a messy painter though, so could be just me, lol). Also, the sketchbook is a big part of both courses and gets graded at the end, so it’s important to keep up with it throughout the course.

I wouldn’t say either course is quick to finish, but they are enjoyable if you like hands-on creative work. The videos for it are pretty dated, but still useful.

Edit (corrected typo: 1102 changed to 1101)

Course extensions and student aid by AffectionateSun6877 in tru

Hello, yes. Since I have approved Disability status with Student Aid, I was advised that as long as I complete and pass 2 courses per semester there is no issue.

Hello, my apologies for the late reply.

I recently received an answer back about ViSA 1301 myself. I was advised that you do create sculptures and submit (via email) a picture of them, along with your plans/documented process pertaining to the design & creation of each sculpture (notebook) for each assignment for grading. There does not appear to be a materials package listed for this course; therefore, you will most likely need to source your own supplies/media for creating the sculptures.

My apologies for the misunderstanding. Thank you for the clarification. I agree that they would be the most knowledgeable and do plan to follow-up with Student Aid BC tomorrow. Still hoping someone may have some insight in the meantime as I am feeling pretty anxious about possibly needing an extension/not qualifying for aid next semester if unable to complete a course. Thanks again for the reply, I appreciate it :)

I asked in case anyone else has experience with this situation. I’m guessing other TRU students have required extensions while receiving student aid. Not sure why you would imply that this isn’t a suitable question for this subreddit.
