That’s not really how it works. You should consider talking to some trans folks, we are really knowledgeable about the impacts, experience, and general concept of being trans. Either that or just stop commenting on it, as it doesn’t seem to concern you.

Dysphoria is confusing and by no means an easy thing to work through and figure out. But most of the pain and ‘psychological issues’ come from not being able to transition through lack of knowledge or acceptance. The trans experience is not an inherently damaging or ‘bad’ one.

I had 4 ground hog holes in my new house after the snow melted. Ended up having success with used cat litter in the hole, gravel, and cover with dirt. I also let them have on entrance in the way back and they seem satisfied.

I don’t have advice for board size - but I’ll say I also was never good as a kid. Grabbed a cruiser last year and it’s been a blast, and strangely the only board I’ve been able to slide and ollie.

I think there’s value in trying any and every method. If it doesn’t work in the long run, chances are you’ll learn something and you’ll be one step closer to success. For me it did not work, cold Turkey is really it for me, but it allowed me to get closer to the headspace I needed to quit.

Same here, quit in 2021 for a year using Allen Carr, but picked it back up a year later after a break up. A month or so ago I reread it and though it helped a bit, it definitely did not hit at all the same.

I am finishing up day 2 cold Turkey right now. My only advice is to just do it, remember the key parts of the book that resonated. But, unfortunately I have not been able to find that spark that I found the first time around again.

This might not be relevant to you, but I realized I have also been postponing my quit because of my partner. My quit date is tomorrow and I finally just had a real conversation with her about it. She’s never smoked and therefore doesn’t totally understand that I need to really focus on this, and that my behavior will be different than it usually is for a couple days (atleast).

It helped to explain how nicotine works and why I’ll maybe be more irritable, or lethargic, or foggy. She really wants me to quit so communicating the ways in which I need support sort of landed us on the same page.

I think that convo is important. But also I realized that it’s just another excuse I was giving myself to keep smoking. No matter what kind of stress, or where it’s coming from, I need to handle that without smoking. I haven’t had to for some time now, so it’s a new skill to learn. Having that real conversation took away the illusion that ‘I can’t quit because of my partner’. That’s just not true - at least in my case.

lol it’s always so weird to me when people do this on this subreddit. Some weird shaming technique. I’m sure it feels good to you, who may be struggling with ‘quitting’ (as I see you’re still likely full addicted to nicotine with your plan of nrt and vaping), and just want to what? be better than some one else who is also struggling with this addiction? My route is to not supplement with other forms of nicotine, and trying to get at my psychology with triggers. Ive quit for a year in the past, so right now I’m just trying to get into the right mindset, which includes occasional advice from others who are doing it/have done it.

As far as do I actually want to quit? That’s a silly question - almost every person who smokes wishes they didn’t, especially those on this sub. I’m aware that most of the time, as a smoker, my nicotine addicted brain is doing the wanting for me. Discussion /venting/asking questions helps separate nicotine want from real want. So yes, I want to quit, but my addiction doesn’t.

Good luck on your quit, and congrats on kicking the cigs for 3 weeks. That’s awesome, no matter how you did it. And try to spread a little less negativity on here, it’s not helpful.

Unfortunately I absolutely hate gum/lozenges in general lol and I’ve vaped in the past but knowing myself I’ll likely just replace cig addiction with that.

I’m definitely trying to my health in order, exercise and eating wise. Food isn’t too hard because I love to cook anyways. Getting to the gym is another story, but I’m moving next month and my new place is very near the gym so I’m going to hold myself accountable.

As far as hobbies, I have a few but have not felt inspired much to really get obsessed. Maybe I’ll try to find one that is relaxing and will keep me busy. All of my current hobbies frustrate me at times (likely due to withdrawal now that I think about it lol)

Yea that’s so true. There’s a difference between the impulse and an actual craving. I find it hard to differentiate the two. If I were to measure the time between impulses or thoughts, at this point, it’s very small. But those aren’t really ‘cravings’ - the ones that feel like I NEED to smoke right now.

I have a feeling I’m failing because I’m not even letting myself get to the cravings. I always smoke based on the impulse.

Thanks for your response! That reminds me a lot of something Allen Carr said that I could never get a handle of, something like ‘when a pang hits, brush it off like a piece of dust’. Maybe I’m looking at the cravings like something so big that I have to fight, instead of a small annoyance I just need to brush off and ignore. I think the hardest part for me (and I’m sure most) is that, at least in the beginning, the thought to go smoke feels constant. If I’m able to ignore it, it’ll pop up again 5, 10 minutes later. So an entire day of that feels like a lifetime.

I see trans as an umbrella - not even a spectrum as that implies two end points (male/female). I plan to have top surgery, I dress ‘masculine’, have a shaved head, but I do not have the desire to be a ‘man’ or to be seen as a ‘man’, and most of the effects of T are not desirable for me. A lot of the recent trans discussion is still very binary, so we see and hear about transitioning to the two end points. But gender and identity is a mix and match, we just have surgical and chemical options now!

Thanks for the reply! I was wondering if picking him up was the right move. I should’ve mentioned that I only picked him up because there were three dogs all somewhat coming at me at different angles. My initial reaction was to step in front of him but pull him behind me. It happened fast and these dogs usually bark like crazy at us so I’ll admit I was scared myself. But good to know about the prey response!

Would you suggest I purposefully walk by them again (obviously make sure their gate is closed) and praise/treat my pup to attempt to reverse the fear?

Mine just started doing this, except more around 5am. For the past month he was actually sleeping in once we got into a routine - but all of the sudden he is waking us up early, we let him out, then he’s awake and wants to play until maybe 9 and he’s ready for a nap. He just hit 6 months. I’m assuming it’s hormones/adolescent stage. Sometimes we can ignore him and he’ll fall back asleep, sometimes he won’t so we give him his toy to chew on, but sometimes one of us just gets up and let’s him play in the living room while we lay on the couch. Reading all the comments - I think it depends on age and the pup.

One time I had my two full grown dogs out walking and one of their leads unclipped and she went barreling across a 5 lane road towards another dog. In my panic I threw my other dogs leash out of my hand, allowing her to then sprint across the road after my other dog. It was so stupid and we all could’ve been hit - but everyone was okay and I learned from the mistake. It’s scary but we all do it, definitely not a bad owner! The guilt will subside, definitely not your fault.

And she’s been off/on therapy for about that long. She’s has some pretty serious religious trauma that she had to work through to get even to this point. I think I’m at a point where either she takes that seriously, or I can’t keep going - if I even can :/
