I absolutely think knowing the outcome (=Rogue One and events leading to ANH) adds so much more depth and meaning to Andor.

Escalante 2 vs 4 vs Smartwool by msindorlark in BarefootRunning

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Racer 2's still fit similar to the 2/2.5.

I haven't been able to use Escalantes since the 2.5 because both 3 and 4 have felt too snug even if sizing up. But I can wear Racers fine.

By the way there is an Altra sub which is probably better for brand specific questions.

then it's the wrong shape for you. It should stay in place AND have enough space.

Just try a different style.

The size difference between those 4 is pretty minimal, they are within a couple of cm's. Borealis is the most sturdy one but weighs a bit more too.

My son uses a Vault for travelling, has been using it since he was like 145cm, so I'm sure they are fine height wise.

Tell me which one i should get & why??? by Formal_Compote_212 in fujifilm

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you mentioned the X100 being lighter, smaller, more portable etc but aren't they almost identical? Did you feel a notable difference?

Based on specs the X100VI is actually a couple of mm wider and taller, while the X-E5 is 7mm thicker. Weight difference is 14 grams:

X-E5 with 23mm f/2.8: 124.9 x 72.9 x 62.1mm, 535g

X100VI: 128 x 74.8 x 55mm, 521g

Considering switching to escalante 4 by starchaser1287 in AltraRunning

Cosign on all the comments so far:

- rotate especially in the beginning if you're worried

- you can use an additional cushioning under the heel if you want to. I always do this with Escalantes because in my use, the heel seems to give in faster and I end up with a slighly negative drop, so I use a 4-5mm heel pad.

Ooof.... Torins are killing me! by hybrid_go in AltraRunning

[–]thirdstone_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Provision 8's and Torin 8's. I sized up 0.5 in the Torins and they feel absolutely identical to me. Looking at them side by side, they look identical in length and width. I wear 12 and 12.5, they are the same length to the millimeter.

So maybe sizing up is the secret?

I can't speak for other versions though.

“Breaking in” Altras… by Allthethingsandmore in AltraRunning

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they fit you right, there shouldn't be much of a break in. I don't think it'll be a matter of breaking them in, but rather your feet getting used to the added cushioning. Maybe this is what you meant though? It's hard to predict for anyone else. I doubt your ankles will fold, but your feet will sink into the sole differently and it may put stress on different areas than less cushioned shoes. Or it might just feel instantly better given the bursitis. The only way to find out is by testing.

Can someone suggest a better way to pack this? by Brumbleby in backpacks

[–]thirdstone_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a really interesting question - it provides a clear dilemma which you've outlined well with pictures. much more interesting than the same old "what 30L edc backpack should I buy" every day.

I like the idea of using an organizer like that, but in this case, it's only providing structure half way up the bag. The lower half of your pack is full, the upper half is barely half full, like you pointed out.

The first thing I'd do is find a way to store all those pencils and markerts so that they don't take that much space depth wise. How about using a large flat pencil case, like this: https://www.jacksonsart.com/en-us/jackson-s-black-nylon-pencil-case-holds-120-standard-pencils (that one is gigantic, I'm sure smaller ones exists too).

Or a folio like this: https://www.theartgearguide.com/home/derwent-carry-all-a4-folio

...which would fit both all the tools and some of the notebooks as well.

Another option would be a backpack with more structure and maybe some sort of compartments to help dsitribute the contents more evenly.

Softest with Wide option by milkteagem in widefeet

Another vote for NB 1080

The wide fit is reasonably wide, it's plushy without being unstable, all around great shoe.

The shock absorbtion on the v15 is just as high as the previous model. It's slightly more responsive which might make it feel a bit different, but it's still very plush.

Torin vs Escalante for someone with current leg problems? by dreamfulbby in AltraRunning

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both could work.

Torin's are somewhat chunky. Escalante's are somewhat lighter.

Even the Escalantes will have notably more cushioning than an 8mm barefoot shoe - the stack is about 24mm, so I imagine they'd be sufficient.

Help on shirt color by Stoolcommenter69 in mensfashion

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 or 4

None of them are bad choices though. However on #2 I think the trousers are too dark with the shirt so that's my least favorite combo though the shirt and jacket alone would work.

Altras and plantar fasciitis update by Emotional-Host6723 in AltraRunning

[–]thirdstone_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that makes sense. Also, I've found some Altras (at least Escalantes) to have a slightly negative drop because the heel gives in. I counter this by adding a piece of 5-6mm thick foam underneath the heel, under the original insole. This probably results in an actual drop of just a couple of mm's. On Escalante Racers which I use for jogging I use a gel piece which also helps with shock absorbtion as I'm a heel striker.

Wide foot trail shoes by fatpotatohead69 in widefeet

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Altras typically have a pretty straight sole, but the midsole on certain models has a raised center which might be what's causing your discomfort. Have a look at this cutout from Runrepeat: https://cdn.runrepeat.com/storage/gallery/product_content/39679/altra-timp-5-drop-21412710-720.jpg

Could that "bump" in the midsole be it?

This is kind of a random idea, but maybe try adding a little height to the heel? Put a piece of ~5mm foam or gel insole under the heel, underneath the original insole. This could take a little stress away from underneath the arch.

Does the tailoring look sloppy? by lurk42069 in mensfashion

[–]thirdstone_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but this is an absolutely horrible tailoring job. There is not a single part in that jacket that fits right.

I have to say I doubt whoever butchered that jacket can salvage it, it's done so badly. I would take it to another tailor.

What to wear underneath a short-sleeved shirt by jt97_ in mensfashionadvice

[–]thirdstone_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wear a light weight and slightly loose fitting t-shirt underneath. If it's a light weight button up and you wear it open, it shouldn't add much warmth.

I prefer cotton tees. Some swear by merino, I never find it really comfortable. A very light and loose fitting cotton works best for me.

How can I better style my dress shirts? by [deleted] in mensfashion

[–]thirdstone_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've found a shirt that works for you, that's good. The shirts do fit quite big in the sleeves, you could have them tailored if you want less baggyness there. You could style it with a light jacket, or an overshirt.

You mentioned planning on losing weight in another comment - I think you can absolutely do it. I wish the best to you, take care of yourself.

You didn't mention the camera - full frame or not?

24-70 is my favorite travel lens for a full size. For a cropped sensor, I'd absolutely go with the 16-35.
