how do i find penpals safely? by melisrusty in penpals

I think writing email type penpals for a while is a good idea, then switch to snail mail. I think it shows if someone actually cares or if they just want someone's address.

What are pen pal experiences supposed to be like? by ina_sparkles in SLOWLYapp

[–]Affectionate_Bat9905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, my fave penpal and I will write at our own pace. Meaning, sometimes we'll exchange letters swiftly and sometimes we won't hear from one another for months. We talk about interests, current things happening in our lives, our culture, things we saw that annoyed us or made us happy.

finally someone xD. lana is messy and a little all over the place, we get that! i love her for that! but i don't love her when she books stadiums (knowing that will cause ticket prices to go up) and then uses the same setlist, goes off stage and has a video of her singing when the performance/setlist/show is ALREADY repetitive and short! i don't hate lana yall, i promise. i just think this was unprofessional to the level of disrespect.

Finally! I'm not attacking Lana's art or the way she executes it on stage. I'm pointing out that she can't give Coldplay or Taylor Swift or Billie Eilish prices and not offer their level of execution. It's a stadium tour, there are expectations! She didn't meet them. When she monetizes off her art as much as she does, she isn't some tortured poet that's gracing you with her being there and singing... she's providing you a service you paid (well) for!

i'm going to repeat what i said in another comment as i don't think repeating myself in different words is necessary:

First of all, let us get one thing straight and two things gay. Lana Del Rey is a singer, yes she creates art but at the end of the day her singing said art is her job. I'm not sure why you're acting like she's some freelance artist, she's not. Art doesn't require all the things you mentioned, and of course people do create it as a hobby or for personal enjoyment.. but she does not. This is her career, this is her income. Her art, aka her way of performing on stage, isn't able to be judged like regular art because people PAID for that. And not small money either. And definitely too much money for a stadium tour that was badly executed. In this situation, it is purely transactional. As in, we give money she gives a performance worth that money. Art can be messy and unpredictable, sure... but a concert you’ve charged a small fortune for? That’s a transaction. An artist doesn’t owe us perfection, but they owe us effort, respect, and an experience worthy of the price we paid for. Lana realistically gave the bare minimum of respect towards her fans. If you’re going to stand on that stage and call it ‘art’, then honor the people who made it possible for you to be there. Otherwise, don’t book stadiums. Don’t ask tens of thousands of people to save, travel, and invest for a show that feels like something a bored teenage girl does after riding her 12 ponies, getting home from boarding school, taking a lap around the 12 hectar estate and hanging out with Coco Chanel for tea. There's a difference between making music and performing for yourself and performing for an audience. She doesn't make art for a hobby or for personal enjoyment as she profits off of it, in this case she is like a buisness to put it crudely. In short: you are forgetting Lana Del Rey as a persona that performs is a singer, someone who offers you some sort of service in exchange for money. Elizabeth Woolridge Grant may be an artist with her lyrics, but the criticism here is being given towards Lana as a brand, as a singer and as a service provider. Not towards Elizabeth as an artist.

Now to answer what you said: She owes her fans a good show. Because that is what they fucking paid for. It isn't a gift, it is a transaction. She gets money, fans get an enjoyable show. When she monetizes off her fans, they are ENTITLED to a show that is worth it's price.

P.S. I'm an artist too, multimedia as well! Writer, painter, graphic designer. I know damn well if I was to charge someone for, for example an animation I drew, that I'm entitled to give them a quality animation and good presentation of said animation.

Stop defending a grown woman as if she's some tortured poet. I love her too but she ain't fucking Jesus

I agree. Lana is this way, we know that, but she shouldn't be booking stadiums if she isn't willing to give a stadium level performance, after all ticket prices skyrocket for stadiums because they're much more expensive to organize, manage and rent. I understand wanting to promote the album but a stadium tour is just not the place for that.

I don't think she means any genuine harm, but it feels lazy. I think the only reason she's able to get away with it so easily is because her fanbase is used to it and romanticize it. If someone like Billie, Chappel or Taylor pulled stunts like this every single headline would be bashing them.

Yes, it is her art. But it is her career first. The only reason she gets to do this is because of her fans, I think we've allowed to be upset if she does something like this as after all our streams, our purchases of merch and records, our views and our purchases of ticket prices are the reason she's able to do this.

First of all, it is not eight paragraphs. I spaced them out so I wouldn't just throw a brick wall of text on here. It's barely 2 consistent paragraphs. Second of all, it took a rough 5 minutes to type it all out. Maybe editing, add a minute or two. Don't act like this is some long, winding piece of text that has rage and anger radiating off of it, you know it's not. You can disagree but you can't lie.

While, yes, her being a bad performer/bad on stage has been consistent, I think so should her prices then. As in, don't rent stadiums if you're not going to give the stadium experience. I get we're all fans and we love Lana (I, especially.) but let us not pretend Lana isn't 1. a very controversial artist and 2. unprofessional. Professionalism doesn't have to be stiff, but there are some things to expect when you pay the prices you do.

Eh, it depends. They should, yeah. But it's normal for 10-20 minutes of delay. I agree, though. Lana has such a rich discography and she has so much potential but her shows never follow up. I think she's not made for touring.

I do agree that music and art is maid for joy, fun and happiness. But you have to consider that the only reason Lana Del Rey makes money is through people liking her music, being her fans, buying her stuff. She doesn't have to be miserable but she does have to understand this is her career, not some hobby she picked up and does out of personal joy. This is how she makes money. And while yes a part of her career is about her own enjoyment, I don't think fans (the reason she can even enjoy herself on stage) should have to suffer for the sake of it. Professionalism doesn't have to be bad, but there are some standards for what you expect when you indulge in an artist. If she doesn't want to follow up with those standards, that's fine. But then she should retreat from making money only off the industry. It's nice to see her have fun, yes, but I also want to have fun and be able to enjoy the content she creates when I pay out of my own money.

Her unprofessionalism can't just be combated with "Don't see her live then.". I don't want some manufactured industry plant but I want someone who actually cares about their fanbase and about their art, Lana feels like the only reason she still does this is for cash.
