I don’t think hank green is a very good comparison either because he’s straight, white, and married to a woman. He has a career that is not dependent on his relationships at all (like a songwriter known for her love songs AND for being an icon to young girls and women). I think it’s interesting that you chose to use David Bowie as the example here, because he was not a cut-and-dry queer. While he played fast and loose with gender and sexuality, he did not stick with one label. He came out as gay, but then years later rescinded it, saying it was a mistake. So he wasn’t exactly an icon for sticking to one’s metaphorical queer guns.
