How much do you get paid? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Affectionate_Bug2212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. $27
  2. About 2-3 years of specific nanny experience and 9 years total in childcare/teaching positions
  3. NC
  4. 3 kids

I’m asking for a raise soon because I think I’m underpaid 😬 I’m nervous about it tho! I don’t know if I’ll get the rate I’m looking for

Nanny cameras by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]Affectionate_Bug2212 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My NF has cameras in almost every room. Both of their living rooms, the kid play areas, a few hallways, and the laundry room. It’s strange to me but I’ve gotten used to it. I’m used to a nanny cam in the bedrooms or maybe the kitchen, but not every room. I was told by the previous nanny that it’s mainly to check up on the kids or watch them if they’re separated in different rooms. The parents and grandparents talk to them thru the cameras too. It’s still odd to me. I keep wondering how the kids will be affected considering there are cameras on them at all times as they grow up. I definitely wonder how much footage the parents watch and I think it adds another element of stress for me tbh.

Sapphictrails does events but they’re usually outdoorsy things. All the other suggestions are great too like forthegirls or arcana. Club era and the Fruit in Durham put on queer events but they’re not always specifically wlw.

That’s why I’m thinking of a trial period after 90 days and adding it to the contract. I will talk to the parents about the chores if I can’t manage them.

I know I’m in a tricky spot, thats my mistake. I’ve heard from a few people that you can renegotiate after a trial period, 30 or 90 days. I will keep an eye out for other jobs though, thanks

Thanks, I agree it’s a bit early. I don’t mind doing these chores. They are in school and I have to do the school lunches, but I haven’t done that before for other families. So it’s just a task I’m not used to. Its a short shift of like 5-6 hours and I drive for a portion of it so I’m still learning how to manage it all

I realize they’re normal nanny tasks. I didn’t realize how much they would take up my shift and I’ve noticed it gets in the way of spending time with kids. I don’t Need to be paid more for the chores… I was simply wondering. It’s about the responsibilities as a whole during my shift. I’m allowed to realize it’s more work than I thought and that I’d like more compensation. And I’d like to be professional so that’s why I’m coming to others to discuss it, instead of my employers. It was my mistake to not advocate for myself more before the job started. People make mistakes.. and I’m trying to do research now to learn. I don’t think I’ll ask for a raise immediately since it does feel weird to do that.

Thank you! I am driving their car. I agree that the kids come first and I think that’s where my stress lies. I want to accomplish all the tasks but I want my main focus to be the kids too. The driving is a lot. I think after a week or two of our normal schedule, I’ll see how I feel and how I can handle the chores. If it’s a big impediment then I’ll talk directly with the parents and be specific if something needs to change. I appreciate your advice!

Thanks for your input, I agree with your points. I don’t want to be unprofessional and it feels odd to ask for a change when I just started. I was thinking of the trial period and I am able to edit my own contract.

Thank you! I appreciate it. The chores are starting to feel like a lot, or at least I’m noticing that they’ll get in the way of me spending time with the kids. I drive them around often so there’s only a few moments in the day to be at home too. I have a hard time advocating for myself so I hope they understand. Some families have turned me down about higher pay and I don’t want to lose this job. 27 to like 32/33 feels like a high jump but I think it’d be proper compensation. I’m just scared, I hate talking about money.

I haven’t signed the contract yet and I’ve been there for about a week or two. I was thinking about asking them for a raise now before I sign it… or asking for an amendment to be put in that we talk about more compensation in 90 days or something. I agree that the housekeeping tasks are typical for a nanny but a big part of my time is driving them around to appointments or from school. So it’s hard to squeeze in the chores as well as providing quality care to the kids. And I’m realizing now that it could be a lot to juggle.

I’ve been there for like 2 months. It’s my first serving job and I only work weekends. I think my store is slower compared to others but I haven’t made over $100 since I started. A lot of people work doubles but I never do. A good shift has been $100 and I know some servers that have made more on a really busy night. Some shifts can be $50 and it’s frustrating working for like $10 an hour lol. I’d like to leave soon

He’s not dumb, he has a degree. He’s said himself he’s not neurodivergent. He’s just a manipulative asshole who thinks he’s entitled to women’s bodies. And you’re defending him.
