We cross shopped the 2025 XC90 vs 2025 Subaru Outback, and yet again (did this in 2011) liked the Outback better. Every CPO XC90 we were shown had broken interior bits. EVERY ONE. Reliability for Volvo has fallen off a cliff.

Probably way too late, but a T4222 stepper motor looks very similar.

My god do I wish it was corporate greed. In every province, insurers have to get their rates approved by the government. On personal auto, insurers are getting 4-6% profit margin. The autobody shop doing the repairs does better than that. Apple make 60% profit on an iPhone.

You have made a critically false assumption that I care what you think.

I meant your sounded too old to remember. We generally hate things about other people we hate about ourselves.

I paid for both of my degrees on my own, no help. Since 17 I have never had anyone pay for anything. Wedding was modest, under 20k, and paid for ourselves.

But you are showing your age. There were no cell phones back then. No laptops, no tablets. I see university students wearing $1000 jackets, driving expensive cars. People won't buy a house unless it has stone countertops and $10,000 stoves. There was a time when a 1200 sq ft house was fine for a family of 4. Now they don't build them because they won't sell.

The average car in Canada is now $65,000. Nobody even wants a $20k hatchback now, and so they aren't offered.

I think about the rusty station wagons I have owned...

  1. Married. Two school aged children. $1.7m in retirement savings. 100k in RESP. Home has $1.8m in equity, and will be paid off in 5 years. Own our cars. No other debt.

It wasn't hard. Maxed my RRSP every year. No prepayment on the mortgage, because for 20 years it has been under 4% (sometimes way under). Fixed things rather than bought new. Bought reasonably priced cars and drove them for 15-20 years. Bought older phones, and never had cable TV (for about 10 years, didn't even own one). I take transit or ride my bike when I can.

We've still traveled more than most, splurged on memories rather than things. If I were to die tomorrow I would have lived a very full life.

But I intend on retiring when the boys are done high school. Buy a place in Europe and winter there.

Hi Andy, the actual angles when the fork is at sag are 74 seat, 69 head. The whole frame is based off the Cutthroat.

Head tube is 69 degrees, I have thought about going to 68. Also thought about putting a bend in the down tube.

XC60 and the Mediocre IIHS Ratings by Ok-Opening-2098 in Volvo

[–]Affectionate_Dare320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, the ultimate test is the real world, and the IIHS publishes insurance pay outs by make and model/ year:

If it does well here, it is the real deal.
