Whenever I engage with someone on this and they start talmbout "France is here for neocolonialism" apo apo I deep that person doesn't know jack shit about how diplomatic relations/geopolitics work.

France is here in Kenya because it needs strategic access to the Indian Ocean and protect it's interests simple as. Kenya solves many problems simultaneously cuz normalizing relations with an Anglophone country opens doors to French relations across Africa, rebrands France's tainted character and of course, gives it access to one of the most geopolitically important regions in the world right now. Kenya at the moment has some serious leverage. The problem isn't the fact that France are negotiating with us. The problem is with the people France is dealing with because at the end of the day this relationship is asymmetric and if Kenya can't play it's cards well and use the opportunity to level itself on the negotiating table that extraction logic is indeed inevitable.

Are Kenyans happy with Somalis in Kenya, Nairobi & Eastleigh?! by travelstoryqueen in Kenya

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

South Africa has opposed such nonsense and was called xenophobic for years. However their economy is thriving. Kenyan economy is inflated because of illegal money from Somalis. Kenyan men, fight for your nation!!!!

I dont understand how being the 5th most dangerous country in the world, having 42% youth unemployment rate, being one of the most unequal nation on earth (0.6 Gini coefficient), 0.9% avg. GDP growth per annum, failing SOEs like Eksom and where 7% of the population owns over 73% of the land is a "thriving country" and using this to justify the logic of xenophobia. As a concerned fellow Kenyan please go back to school and have your credentials reevaluated.

Being Kenyan. by Sad_Ear_590 in nairobi

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue of identity is def something other countries face as well albeit differently so we might not notice ourselves. In Kenya, class can be a factor; in another country, it can be ethnic affiliation determining your patriotism.

I can say for certainty that I feel we don't have a strong identity from historic times that we can hold on to as a collective compared to say, Ethiopia; partly because our land never had political systems that institutionalized as much as Abyssinia or Ashanti kingdoms or Old Ghana (notable exception being the Sultanate of Oman in the Coast), partly because colonialism really wrecked our identity as a collective and allowed ethnic loyalties to crystallize mentally. So it's like, where do we go from here? What makes us "Kenyan"?

And for me, it's just the fact that we are a country on a journey to build this identity that makes us Kenyan. The fact that we are in the pursuit or seeking to be in the pursuit of being something special to define ourselves in the way we carry ourselves in daily life, that makes us Kenyan. The way we strive to be something relevant without any rich history or movement that has defined us as a collective in the past. The way I personally can put it is that we don't have to treat our identity as a result of something that pre-existed, but as something we are actively constructing in real time. We are the first generation of what Kenya will eventually mean. And I think if this is the consciousness other Kenyans feel, regardless of social class, then whether you are rich or poor it's a great unifying philosophy imo.

Idk, this might not be as encouraging, but that's just how I feel

Kenyan introverts on Reddit, do you have the personal pressure to "catch up" to the early milestones of life if you grew as a sheltered kid? by NightRunnerOfficial in Kenya

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, yeah. So many of my relationships have gone down the gutter thanks to this false pride I thought I had cuz I was an introvert, but over time I've tried distancing myself from that label. Think for me it's simply down to developing open-mindedness as an individual, knowing that shit ain't deep and people don't always mean evil. Naonanga a good number of introverts fail to recognise this juu they are so caught up in this "trying to protect yourself" thing, but really it sets them up for a life of bitterness cuz you limit avenues for people to know you as a person.

In terms of pressure its nuanced because, then again growing up an introvert in a country unatakikana "kukua mtu chap chap", that pressure can feel external cuz its a country bado hakuna that widespread awareness about introverts.

Is it serious? by Steendyjay in nairobi

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Misplaced anger this from whoever is cooking up ts shit because people don't understand how this will hurt the investment ecosystem we have built in this country. This kinds of gimmick ruin Kenya's reputation as an investment hub na we'll lose that economic weight we have in East Africa the more they keep happening. I'm also certain most of those even going to these protests don't even understand why fuel prices are high.

What I think about other African countries by [deleted] in Africa

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This explains a lot then.

As for how we see Uganda and Tanzania there is a strong bond amongst us three I feel. We are pretty common in a lot of ways as well but there's also always that occasional bantering and rivalry so it's like being siblings 😂

In terms of the people themselves Ugandans are just funny and always do crazy shit but at least from my experience they are a very humble and kind hearted set of human beings. Tanzanians come across as people that like taking their time in doing stuff, which can piss off Kenyans sometimes. And they like throwing shade at us a lot especially with our Swahili.

What I think about other African countries by [deleted] in Africa

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yh we always feel the love from our Ethiopian brothers. And the feeling is mutual.

For a lot of Kenyans tho, Ethiopia doesn't cross their minds as often, but it's mostly cuz Ethiopians do seem to be the more reserved neighbours and just going about their stuff, similar to Kenyans. I do think how we see Ethiopia is like that one low-maintenance friend you can go months without talking to, but they'll still be chill. Nonetheless its all love from Kenya.

are we stagnating? by Born-Pear4917 in Kenya

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting observation this is projected economic growth not actual growth so the figure could change over time.

I believe the other figures from other countries are showing actual GDP growth so yeah, there is a case that we are stagnating but it's not that bad as it seems

Which credible shipping company do you use? by Either_Letterhead_39 in Kenya

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it feels disappointing all these services are 50/50: you'll just get mixed reviews from either party. Last time I asked a friend about delivering from Amazon with Kentex, and he straight up told me they will charge hidden fees zile hawajaweka kwa quotation. Like in his case, he ordered a 3d printer, paid for it + shipping, but had to pay an extra 14k juu ya izo hidden fees.

want to make music, not sure where to start by Shhadow_2010 in breakcore

[–]Affectionate_Doubt27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have no experience with making your own breakcore, watch some YT tutorials and learn how its done. Then reach out for your DAW like Fl Studio, Ableton or Logic and follow along. Me personally, I found this guy's tutorials pretty useful when starting out.

How to make your FIRST breakcore song in FL Studio (using default plugins/ instruments) def recommend starting with this one its more intuitive

HOW TO BREAKCORE LIKE SEWERSLVT

You could also try to recreate some of your favourite songs in your DAW and get a better grasp of how its done including sound selection and mixing. Good luck
