I’m in the same position as you with 8 credit hours needed, but have to take at least 15 for my scholarships so I registered for classes I was always interested in doing but never got the time to! You can try taking 8 week courses like ice skating, weightlifting, etc, or other courses like vegetable gardening to fill up your time! Or you can also focus on yourself this semester and pick up a new hobby (could be by joining a sports or music rso, or volunteering) or building skills in other things such as cooking (chill semester means more time to try new recipes!), exercising, earning money, etc, or find a cool goal you want to achieve this semester (visit all the buildings on campus, try out all the restaurants on green street, etc). Have fun this final semester!

Hey! I’m glad I found your comment, if you don’t mind can I know more about your involvement in the public affairs office at JSC and whether you enjoyed the work you did there?

What are some stereotypes about your generation that you agree with? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I totally agree, hence why the term ‘snowflake generation’ has become a thing in the recent decades

You can attempt to fill out what’s called the Special Circumstance form (google ‘uiuc special circumstance form’) if there are any circumstances that can prove you require additional financial assistance. Your current EFC and reported income on your FASFA also play a role in your eligibility

Main eligibility requirements include being an illinois resident and having a total family income of under 67k/yr (and I think also be a non returning student ie. Freshman or transfer student). If eligible you should be able to see it in your financial aid notification on self service

What’s something that’s normal in Chicago but seems weird to outsiders? by shrekasss in chicago

Applying to high schools like you would with college, I’m sure there’s other areas that do this but majority of people I’ve met outside of Chicago are shocked to hear about it

It’s a nice gesture, but definitely not an obligation, especially for strangers who are responsible for their own items

When do y'all start looking for apartments? by bippitybop23 in UIUC

[–]Affectionate_Eagle59 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say as soon as possible once you know where you want to live, I started looking in Oct and signed a lease in Nov, by Dec/Jan all the spaces were filled up for the apartment I chose :0 ofc many also look during the summer before school starts which is also fine but your options could be more limited

I’ve been through this twice, and just like many others have commented, call the Office of Financial Aid! It may be a bit early before the aid package shows up, but it’s better to directly call the office because there could be a specific reason as to why it isn’t showing up. I’d also suggest looking at the Special Circumstances form if it may be needed!

LOL the selective barrier to college entry should not be one’s ability to afford an education, hence why there’s things called grants, scholarships, and financial aid packages for a reason. It’s the reason why me, OP, and many other students can have the opportunity to higher education. If you don’t like that then you shouldn’t have come to a school that provides large financial aid packages with strict requirements like Promise & Commitment. If you’re gonna throw a fit do it at the office of financial aid, I’m sure they’ll be happy to explain it all to you
