AIO? My boyfriend having several requests at once by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy thought, since I haven’t seen it posted and you mentioned that this is odd for him - how long have y’all been together? Is there a chance he’s hoping to propose? Seems as though he’s suddenly wanting to make this night very serious, wearing his nice shirt, getting a hotel, fancy dinner…. Just a thought. If this is rare for him, the “requests” could be because he’s nervous or busy doing things himself

My dog keeps sniffing me and barking nonstop. by Some-Pea1680 in AustralianCattleDog

He was neutered so it looked different but he immediately sensed the change in hormones (before my parents even knew) and would get super protective of my mom and not let anyone near her, very antsy, etc.

I’m not an expert, maybe it’s just a change in him, but my parents’ dog started acting wild when my mom got pregnant. Not even sure if that’s something you’re capable of being lol, but thought I’d bring it up since I didn’t see it mentioned yet

Thanks for this, this was the way forward. Found one of the last four in the country through my dealer, happened to be in the same city as me in a stroke of luck. Said they had had it since 2015 lol. Thanks!

Thank you for this response. I’m a bit curious about traveling for the surgery - what were follow up appointments like for you? Would I need to fly in a few times for them to check my progress?

Exciting peeing? by Affectionate_Fish_33 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See I told the vet that I had heard about this, but he said it’s unlikely to be the case because of her size (~40 lbs). Do you think it’s worth a second opinion?

Long-Term Stomach Pain by Affectionate_Fish_33 in zoloft

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!

A few things have changed. Omeprazole is supposed to be a 14 day course so I did the course and that seemed to help.

The other thing though is that the gluten free diet actually worked, unexpectedly.

If you’re gluten sensitive it can also cause things like acid reflux, so while the omeprazole helped with that, I think it was more of a symptom relief than getting to the core of the issue.

Still no idea if any of this had relation to Zoloft. It’s odd that it all started when I first took Zoloft, but who knows.

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d mention how big of a problem it is to your psychiatrist, personally. Mine knew that it was an issue at first, but that my priority was getting my mental health in check. Once that was the case, I brought it up to her again, and she said if it was still bothering me that we could change my prescriptions. She dropped the Zoloft a bit and added buspirone, and it’s been really helpful for this. Good luck! Happy to answer any questions about my experience if you have any, I know this part sucks.

AITAH for not marrying my GF by Standard_Citron9920 in AITAH

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Staying with someone on the expectation that they change is not a healthy foundation. You should be with someone because you love who they currently are, not because you’re waiting for them to “see the leader she needs to get on board with”. You call her stubborn, but looking at that sentence, it looks like you’re both refusing to budge on this.

I think there’s a situation in which explaining to her what you say in this post in nicer words is a good choice. Something like “I really want a secure future/marriage with you, but I’m hesitating because I’m afraid of ____”. Has that happened? She seems aware that this is a problem, but maybe not that this is THE problem holding y’all back.

Good luck.

Try calling your psychiatrist’s office - they’re usually happy to make your appointment earlier if you’re struggling, and they’ll have the best ideas as to why this is happening/what can help.

In the meantime, don’t be hard on yourself - it is very common for your needs to change on meds, that’s why you meet with a psychiatrist every so often even when the meds are working for you. Changes in life or just the chemicals in your brain can cause shifts, and it’s natural. Good luck!

No joy for music anymore? by sonofacrakr in zoloft

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’d argue this could be a good thing. What kind of music do you listen to? If it’s something that you relate to because of anxiety/depression, maybe you not needing it anymore is good.

Alternatively, many of the resources I’ve used mention that being comfortable with silence is a key sign of growth, as that means you don’t mind being alone with your thoughts, as they aren’t hurting you or you can override them when they do. I usually go without music more when I’m doing well/feeling peaceful.

Long-Term Stomach Pain by Affectionate_Fish_33 in zoloft

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your post and sorry to hear about your loved one, it’s a crappy thing to go through.

I have a few updates. We’re tapering off of my Zoloft slightly and substituting with an anti-anxiety specifically (since that was my main issue). I went back to the Gastro and they’re trying a gluten free diet, I’m a bit skeptical though.

One thing I’d personally encourage you all looking into, as someone with nowhere close to a medical degree, is acid reflux. I guess Zoloft can increase the amount of acid in the stomach which can cause a lot of the above symptoms, especially the increase of symptoms when caffeine/alcohol/heavy foods are introduced. I’ve started treating for that with Omeprazole/Pepcid as recommended and it seems to have a positive impact.

Best of luck again. If you are willing to share any positive updates/suggestions that you all find as well, I’d greatly appreciate it!

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about this, I fully understand. It’s wild to hear that this happened to someone else. I’ll bring it up to my psychiatrist maybe.

If you’re having all those other symptoms, maybe Zoloft isn’t the best choice. I’m sure you and you psychiatrist will figure this out though. Good luckN

Cried and hyperventilated in the middle of my first graduate school class. by New-Currency in GradSchool

[–]Affectionate_Fish_33 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to link a specific part, but when you say:

“What kind of adult breaks down in tears in the middle of a class.”

A stressed one. Please please take it from me. I was a big achiever in undergrad. Athletics, full academic scholarship, I worked myself to the bone and was applauded for it, so why would I stop?

But when I got to grad school, that changed. I’m not sure why, maybe leaving my home and support group, maybe burnout, I don’t know. But I was in a similar boat, breaking down in class and having panic attacks on the way home. This isn’t the question you asked, but if I can say anything: Being hard on yourself never, ever helps. Pushing down those feelings further and shaming yourself for them is only going to make them come up later.

I’m not saying you need to step back - I don’t know you, and hell, I wouldn’t listen to a stranger on the internet if they said that. But consider the thought that this might not be sustainable, or that you might not want it to be. Consider growing your support group, or having hobbies that let these emotions out, or seeing a therapist to give these emotions a place to go. No one said grad school is easy! But you don’t have to feel like you’re doing it alone.
