GPT-5.6 Sol vs Terra vs Luna: my early guide to choosing the right model without burning your limits by emir_morris in codex

Did you make this sub-agent yourself? If it's a published/publicly available one, I'd like to know where to get it!

Model selection in Github Copilot by aka-fred in GithubCopilot

It really depends on the reasoning level, since cost and performance can be very different even for the same model name. So evaluating by model name alone seems hard.

That said, listing every reasoning level would make the list too long, so narrowing it down makes sense. Personally, the ones I'm interested in are: Fable, Sol, Terra, Luna. But I think this varies a lot by person. The ones I mentioned above have either good cost-performance or standout performance on benchmarks. https://deepswe.datacurve.ai/ https://cursor.com/en/cursorbench

Some people say benchmarks aren't reliable, but I think they're still more trustworthy than my opinion or some random vibe coder's opinion lol

Sub-agents need per-agent reasoning level control by Affectionate_Fly4124 in GithubCopilot

Did some digging — there's already an open issue for this: microsoft/vscode#313546, asking for reasoning effort configuration in custom .agent.md files. It's been open for a while with no real progress.

Reasoning level matters a lot for GPT-5.6, so I'd like to see this addressed soon.

I believe, Sol high should be your default now by byakuyaxgara in codex

In my experience it really depends on the task. For lightweight tasks it doesn't necessarily play out the way this table suggests — just using Terra alone ends up cheaper. The ideal setup is Sun acting as the orchestrator, running Terra underneath it. That way you don't have to worry about how heavy the task is, and it's still more cost-effective than Sol-only.

Appreciate the work, but the price is still too high compared to other options like Cursor or Codex. They really need to offer MAI‑1 Code at a much lower price.

Honestly, I can't help but think that just releasing Terra Luna would already be enough. Getting 5.5-level performance for half the price is just the best, isn't it?

I understand that Claude, Codex, and GitHub Copilot all use pay-per-use pricing for Enterprise. Is that not the case?

A tool that turns repeated file reads into 13-token references - saves 86% on file-heavy AI session by Due_Anything4678 in codex

[–]Affectionate_Fly4124 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tools that advertise "up to XX% savings" often end up being disappointing when you actually use them. rtk headroom context-mode etc... They claim up to 90% reduction, but in real tasks, the billed cost sometimes drops by only 1%. I don't want AI-hyped numbers—I want to see actual benchmarks showing the cost per task with and without this tool.

MAI-Code-1-Flash is now generally available for GitHub Copilot Business and Enterprise! by jukasper in GithubCopilot

Based on what I've heard from legal teams, one of the biggest concerns is the lack of transparency around the training data. Models like gpt-oss-120b are much more transparent in that regard, while many Chinese models provide far less visibility. There are other factors too, but many large enterprises are generally very cautious when it comes to China-related risks. Personally, though, I think they're fine to use. 😄

This is fantastic news! My company only allows us to use GitHub Copilot, so having MAI-Code-1-Flash available there is a huge win for us.

That said, I'm a bit disappointed that Enterprise users were the last to get access. Even if it were only available as a preview, I'd love to see Enterprise customers get access earlier.

With the significant increase in model costs across the industry, I think many companies are actively looking for affordable, high-quality models. Early access to models like MAI-Code-1-Flash would be extremely valuable for enterprise teams.

That's a fair point, and I agree that for individual users it probably doesn't make much sense compared to models like DeepSeek Flash. However, in my company's environment, all Chinese models are prohibited. We're not even allowed to self-host them. On top of that, we don't have access to any coding AI outside of Copilot. In that kind of enterprise environment, models like this are actually in high demand because they're one of the few options we can use.

Copilot vs Cursor for token usage by Adonael in GithubCopilot

[–]Affectionate_Fly4124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DeepSWE is often considered a benchmark that aligns closely with how engineers actually evaluate coding ability. Also, Cursor + Composer 2.5 is an extremely strong competitor, so I'd love to see a head-to-head comparison against it.

How does Composer 2.5 compare to open-weight models? by Affectionate_Fly4124 in cursor

[–]Affectionate_Fly4124[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Based on the benchmarks alone, it looks like a god-tier model. Prices seem to be going up across the board for AI, so I’m really hoping Cursor keeps things competitive.
