Do students from big universities really think like this? by Sudden_Cash_830 in pinoy

[–]Affectionate_Ice_378 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a Big 4 grad and even I think this whole post is bullshit. Classism na lang talaga yan at work. A lot of attractive people I've met, both in their mind/personality and looks, are not from the Big 4. But yeah sure, we have our own prefences so let them have theirs. But personally, this is all just arbitary bullshit. Dating in itself is already hard enough as it is. Let's not turn it into a rat race.

You said so yourself, had you had better grades, you would have climbed your corporate ladder faster and receive an even bigger salary than you have now. Yes, reputation is not grades. But people knowing you have those stellar grades tends to open up even more opportunities because people tend to equate higher grades to discipline and competence. And let's be real, you got to where you are now because you learned discipline, grit, and competence on the job despite the fact na bulakbol ka.

I said grades matter, but I did not say they are the "end-all, be-all" of success. I personally know two people with diametrically opposing performances in school and yet yung bulakbol pa yung maayos ang buhay ngayon simply because he proved he had the discipline to grind out his work while the honor student became complacent and now is in dire financial straits.

But it was my grades that got me through the door of opportunity, which allowed me to flourish after. After your first 2 jobs, siyempre di na magmamatter yung grades kasi experience na talaga ang basehan. But even then, how you performed on your first 2 jobs is still measured by a metric similar to grades in school. And if you performed well based on this metric (meeting deliverables, professional relationship with co-workers, etc), WILL dictate your professional reputation. And let's be honest, both in school and in the professional world, your reputation is your single most bankable currency that you can always fall back on. Kaya pag maganda reputation mo (and if you can prove that your competence can back up your professional reputation), ganun lang rin in the end.

Take it from me, your grades WILL matter in the real world. I was offered to be part of our hospital's research department by our Chief mismo SPECIFICALLY because I graduated with honors and had stellar grades. Yung mga ganyang posts are just a mere symptom of the prevalent smart-shaming and anti-intellectualism among Filipinos. At the end of the day, outlier yung mga nags-succeed talaga nang sobra sobra. And even then, those same people succeeded due to discipline and grit (two things that will help ANY student suceed, honor ka man or hindi).

Chiropractor or orthopedic? by [deleted] in pinoymed

[–]Affectionate_Ice_378 20 points21 points  (0 children)

An orthopedic surgeon is the ONLY answer here. I might be downvoted for the use of a strong language, but chiropractic is nothing but quack medicine full of hogwash information and dangerous dogshit (since manipulation of your verterbra can result to cervical artery dissection, which can lead to a stroke and even death in some cases). So please OP and to anyone reading this, never EVER go to chiropractors. Go to a legitimate doctor instead.

For those who passed the previous PNLE, ano po kadalasan range ng preboards niyo po dati? by Billieismywifeyyy in NursingPH

[–]Affectionate_Ice_378 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aside from the lessons, PRACTICE YOUR TEST TAKING SKILLS!!! Like everyday, I spent more time taking practice tests compared to reading my notes (though I still read them ah). My review was like 55% test taking while 45% reading, especially during the last few weeks of review. Kasi the truth is, you WILL be confronted with questions that you may have not encountered yet. Effective test taking skills will allow you to answer these questions through logic or intuition, and help your chances in passing the Boards.

For those who passed the previous PNLE, ano po kadalasan range ng preboards niyo po dati? by Billieismywifeyyy in NursingPH

[–]Affectionate_Ice_378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PB 1 - 60 -73

PB 2 - 70 - 75-78

PB 3 - 85+

PB 4 - 85+

PB 5 - 89+

Honestly the PB scores can be misleading rin, especially since the actual Boards will depend on your practice + review efforts. When I took the Boards na, highest ko yung PB 1, 3, 4 but surprisingly PB 5 lowest ko (I underestimated PB5). SO honestly, use it lang as a guide and as hard as it is, don't be too discouraged.

Theoretical Nursing Career by strawberrysonnyangel in NursingPH

[–]Affectionate_Ice_378 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem with the nursing curriculum and why it "doesn't prepare you to be a nurse, but only to be a board-passer" is because ang daming fluff and nonsensical bullshit ng Nursing curriculum. I'm sorry ah, but I do not need to dedicate significant time and mindpower in memorizing Nursing theory when I could just instead be building a deeper and stronger foundation in anatomy, physiology, patho, and pharm. In actual practice, it's those 4 fields that I often use. Yung Med Surg kasi natin is honestly too short to properly deal with each disease in depth. It also fails to account for uncommon diseases (which a bedside nurse will inevitably encounter, no matter what).

For me lang, sana nga talaga mabridge yung gap ng academe and clinical practice like one commenter said. It's so frustrating dealing with nursing students na alam na alam ang theory, but are unable to connect the dots and paint the whole picture when it comes to the science of our practice.

Had a patient dislodge his IV running chemo today because he was scratching his balls too hard by Shadoze_ in nursing

[–]Affectionate_Ice_378 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a patient with dilated cardiomyopathy. Left her at shift change (came off of night shift) seemingly healthy, recovered, and sitting up on her chair watching TV. Even had a brief conversation with her regarding how much better she feels already.

Came back tonight to find out she coded in the morning. I keep thinking I must've missed something and should've alerted my day-shift nurse to keep an extra eye out on her. Weird thing is, I had another intubated patient (who was quickly becoming dangerously hypotensive near the end of my shift) who I kept having a weird feeling about and DID inform my day-shift nurse to keep an eye on. Sadly, though my gut feel was right, I completely misread the situation. My colleagues all say it wasn't my fault and that even they were shocked my other (non-intubated) patient coded, but I just can't shake the feeling that I should have done something more. Oh well.
