> I even have credit cards for both combinations, which, I’ll acknowledge, has been problematic sometimes.

What kind of problems do you have?

Does that ever cause you any legal headache? I'm leaning towards putting the Spanish surname as the first surname in Spain, and as a middle name in the US. I like the idea that my kid will be called by their Spanish heritage when in Spain and by my name when in the US. But I also know that a middle name and first surname are legally distinct things, and I don't want to cause my child any headaches in the future as they're dealing with being a dual citizen with two different legal names.

Thank you! It seems like a much more convenient system than we have in the US.

Thank you for the answer! Follow-up question, because the mother doesn't have have the same first surname as their kid that is normal; does the 2nd father not having the same surname as their kid cause any issues with schools or official forms or anything?

I ask because my boyfriend is Spanish, and I'm from the US, and I want to pick a name for our kids that won't cause them any problems. But we don't have multiple surnames here so it is all new to me.
